Hello all
I'm planning a 2 week trip to Lanzarote (6 days) then Fuerteventura (5 days) and then back to Lanzarote for the remainder and the flight back.
I'd like to drive around and take in as much of the sights as possible, and was thinking of staying in Arrecife and Caleta de Fuste. Good locations or not ( only need some place to sleep and have breakfast, I usually spend about 5min. Per holiday by the pool)?

Should I rent a car in Lanzarote and take it over to Fuerteventura, or would it be cheaper renting one in Corralejo (and 2 in Lanzarote) - I checked with the hire company: I'm allowed taking the car to other Islands for a surcharge of 8 euro per rental day (probably excluding VAT)

Sorry, lots of questions from a first time island traveler !

Anyways, thanks a lot for any info

Greetings

Miguel

I'd think carefully about hiring a car on lanzarote and taking it over to fuerteventra as the ferry crossing will be much more costly. It may be cheaper to hire one on each island.
Just a note on arrecife, there's only a couple of hotels here as it's not geared as a tourist place. Not a bad thing but something you should be aware of.

I agree, rent from lanza airport when you arrive (If you know precisely what days you are staying and moving Islands, then I'd book every rental online before you go as its cheaper, and Autoreisen or Cabrera Medina are prob the best for different rental drop off locations) and you can leave it at the rental firms office in Playa Blanca, walk to ferry, and hire again in Corralejo and drop off again in Corralejo on returning to Lanza. Hire again in PB and drop off at airport on return. Again, Arrecife is commercial and residential town for Canarians, not particularly touristic except at the promenade. So stay in Puerto del carmen, Matagorda, Playa Blanca or Costa Teguise if you want your pool. Enjoy yourself, it'll be roasting in October.

Thanks all, for what I believe is indeed good advise. Hadn't factored in the difference in price yet between just taking some luggage and taking a whole car...

I do realise that Arrecife is mainly a place where Canarians live and work, but that's part of why I prefer Madrid over Toledo, and Ghent over Bruges: they're "real" cities, not tourist resorts. I also chose Arrecife because of it's location on the island: figured I'd be about as far from the North as the South, so could visit another part of the island each day with as little travel time as possible (iphone satnav permitting)

Anyone any idea as to the cost of ferry-transfers between Playa Blanca and Corralejo? October isn't yet available on-line, but I guess if there's a difference it'll be cheaper than september anyway? Should I also book the ferry tickets on-line, or is it just as easy and same price if bought over there (I'm known to have had to find a cyber bar to reprint tickets I had thrown away along with my in-flight boarding pass, so buying on-site isn't always that bad for me...)

Anyways, thanks already for the replies so far.

Greetings
Miguel

One other fact. Some hire companies do not allow you to take cars between islands. You need to read the Ts&Cs carefully.
