Just back from another lovely week in Playa Blanca - weather very windy but blue skies and sun. We usually go to Lani's several times, but reports on this site, combined with local knowledge meant we gave it a miss. Don Camillos is an empty shell and being re fitted but dont know what for. We did find a very good alternative though - La Gondola, just a bit further down on the old harbour - it wasnt there last September so it's fairly new. Good food and friendly staff. We also went to El Golfo and had a good meal but a strange experience. We parked right at the end by the play area and walked back to the restaurants and were accosted by a waiter from the first one - he wouldnt take no for an answer - however we continued and got a table at Azul Mar which was the next restaurant. The waiter who had harrassed us could see us and started shaking his fist, spitting and pointing to us and making cut throat signs! We had to walk past him on the way back to the car but he ignored us. Wont be going back although mainly because my husband was put off at lack of menus and no apparent alternative to fish. Anyway we're back in June to hopefully less wind!!!

It's a shame about your El Golfo experience, Mary. Well travelled friends of ours ravew about Azul Mar. We took my brother in law ad wife there last week. We parked about where you did, and the man in the restaurant you mentioned certainly tried to get us in , but was easily brushed off. We went into Azul Mar, and you are right, they are a bit offhand, not having a menu. When you sit down, you have to interrogate them. They ask which fish you want, and there is usually a choice of about four. If asked, they are happy to serve chicken or steak too.My companions had Dorada (fish not beer or beach!) which they said was superb, and I had grilled chicken breast, which was fine, and we had a communal salad.
I've never liked Lani's, but there are plenty of good restaurants in PB, La Chalanita, (near La Gondola) Bocayna up the hill towards the filling station, Luna Rossa (Natura Beach) , Romantica (near the taxis) , Pedro's (near La Gondola) to name but a few.

Hi Walker - thanks for the list of restaurants - apart from Bocayana we have been to them and had some nice meals. The waiter expereience was funny rather than off putting - I have to conclude that we just arent that keen on El Golfo! Any idea what's taking over from Don Camillo? It's a particularly nice part of the harbour to sit.

Sorry to hear about your experience in El Golfo, we had a similar irratating waiter at a restaurant along the front close to the new Timanfaya restaurant that appeared last year along the prom. He irratated us so much that we had to walk away and people sitting nearby, totally agreed with us and said that the food was not that nice anyway..ouch!! If you have not been to the Timanfaya restaurant, you must, it is fantastic and we kept going back and will go back there again..the staff are very friendly too! La Gondola is what was Rincon Playa and yes, the food there is great although I do miss the menu from the Rincon Playa. Have a great time in June

Must have missed the Timanfaya - do you mean the old harbour in PB? Where is it near?

My wife, daughter and I are also just back from a fantastic 2 weeks in PB. As previously mentioned, lots of good weather, apart from a few overcast days. I too was shocked to see that Don Camillo's was just a hollow shell but it was nice to see that the empty shell that was at the end of the old harbour is now nearing completion and it looks very smart.
We are also usually frequent visitors to Lani's and after the reports we've read we were dubious about going again. However, we did, but as the reports suggested, it's not what it once was. We had to wait quite a long time before we were even acknowledged but I got the impression that it was too much trouble to help us out. Needless to say, we didn't go back and spent out lunchtimes mainly in the Irish Anvil near the harbour. The staff were very friendly with us and couldn't do enough to assist and if any of the staff there are on this forum, Rick, Andrea and Chloe say thank you so much for your friendliness and help.
Sadly, we won;t be visiting again this year as our second child is due in July but we're already planning to come back next March.
