It really is just a stones throw from the Iberostar Lanzarote Park to the main Playa Blanca beach. You definitely won't need to hire bikes. We were staying in the family suites at the hotel and from that end it's only a little further to the main beach than it is to Flamingo. The swimming pools at the hotel are really good too.

I agree it would be lovely to hire bikes for a day and cycle over to Papagayo as a one off. But it'd be a crazy expense to hire bikes for a whole family on a daily basis to cycle from the Ibero to the Town Beach!

Car hire is also very resonable and there is not a lot of traffic. Bikes for the family can be 50 Euros a day and you can get a car for 100 Euros for the week. Also it can be very hot cycling after 10.00 am It is a shame about Flamingo and it does look like it will take a long time to be completed. There are lots of other nice beaches not too far away. hope this helps.

Greetings from sunny Kent

I see the last update on Playa Flamingo was 12th June . Does anyone have an update on how the work is progressing on the repair of the defences and the addition of the sand ?

Will be coming over in early August.

Yesterday the big cranes were still dumping concrete blocks to close the gap. No sign of sand yet.

Whole of beach is currently fenced off and was told by one of the restaurant managers this week that they are not due to be finished until September.

Sunseeker,

If all you want is a sandy beach with places to eat and drink, just walk to the town beach. It won't take you much longer than walking to Flamingo from the Iberostar. It is relatively calm and ok for smallish children in the water, whilst the Papagayo beaches, except the furthest, can be quite rough

Sunseeker, I suggest you go to Google maps, http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&tab=wl and select satellite view of Playa Blanca. You'll see your hotel, with the Harbour and the Dorada beach (with arms like a crab protecting it). Playa Blanca (the actual white beach) is about halfway between the two.

There has been some recent discussion about this on the Tripadvisor Playa Blanca Forum. It seems First Choice have put it in writing that the the work will be finished by end July. Also I gather one of the hotels is putting on a free bus to the Dorada beach.
