I've never seen a beach rebuilt before, so it's only a guess, but I'd be surprised if it were complete, with the sand replaced before the end of August. The arms have still a way to go, and if you estimate they have to put sand in to an area about 150 metres wide, and about 50 metres from front to back, about half a metre deep, and sand weighs about 1.5 tons per cubic metre, they have to put in about 6000 tons of sand, or about 300 lorry loads then level it out.

End of this month does seem a tad optimistic! I wonder where First Choice got their information from?
Someone on the other forum is asking about compensation if the beach is still closed. I would be surprised if they get it but at the same time I can understand people being angry about it, especially those with young children who have chosen their holiday specifically for the close proximity of the beach.

Well after reading about the beach (never been to it before) on trip advisor we called in yesterday and took a couple of photo's. http://keithhatfield.fotopic.net/p65880856.htmlhttp://keithhatfield.fotopic.net/p65897042.htmlAll the diggers and cranes where parked up the side of Flamingo beech hotel for the weekend so are out of view in the photo. The whole area looked a mess and it will certainly take some sand to replace the beech, made me wonder where they would get it all from..... cheers Keith

Excellent photos Keith. Looks like there is still quite a lot of work to do.

Thanks a lot for the photos, Keith! Seeing the current state of work, all hope they'd finish until August is gone though.

Good Morning
We arrive at the Natura Palace on 5th August. Just wondering if Playa Flamingo looks any nearer to being finished. Many Thanks.

There is no chance it will be finished by the time you arrive. I walked past this morning. They have just about completed making the arms out of random blocks, but I don't know if they are going to put a concrete walkway on top. After that, they have got to remove the access track for the heavy plant that runs all around the back of the beach, then replace all the sand. Looks like another month or more to me.
Anyway, if you are in the Natura Palace, why not use the Natura beach which is on your doorstep? - there's a cafe/bar, quite a lot of sand, and rock pools for shrimping etc, and there are lots of colourful little fish swimming around in the shallows - nothing frightening though!

I reckon it will not be complete till around Oct at the earliest, based on seeing the place last week.
It must be tough for the cafes/bars on the beachfront.

According to the local paper La Voz de Lanzarote, the contractor's latest estimate was "first week in August". "Mañana" in Canarian Spanish means "unseemly haste"

Some of the restaurants along the front now belong to Flamingo Village Resort as All Inclusive so are not open to the general public.
