We've just booked for December. In the past we have always stayed at the Flamingo end of PB. This year we are breaking from tradition and staying at the Dorada end where we know there is a beach on our doorstep.
The work on Flamingo beach has been ridiculously slow - we were there beginning of Nov last year during the week they first began fencing off the beach ready for work to begin. I'm beginning to wonder whether they will actually pass the 1 year mark with the beach still unfinished!

Saturday I arrived at the Iberostar Lanzarote Park which is next to Flamingo Beach. There was no work during the weekend but today (Monday) some work is going on. A huge crane is adding more concrete blocks. Both arms are made of snow-white concrete blocks. Those of the right arm have a cut-out, which adds to the artificial and alien look. Imagine this: the whole island's architecture and design sports dark brown lava rocks and they use snow-white concrete. Hope they don't leave it like that, cover the concrete with cement and cover this in turn with lava stones. Seems like a lot more work to do. Worst case would be that they run out of budget and Flamingo Beach remains a construction site. BTW: I never had a problem with Flamingo Beach after the storm but now I have.

i agree the concrete blocks are not in keeping, but with time i am sure they will weather and not look as bad. Work is going well there at the moment so hopefully the beach will be open soon. i pass there every day so will keep you all posted

It's wire, but there are a few billboards etc. You'll see the sea.

i have tried to post photo's taken today, but file to big will take some tomorrow with lower resolution. i think the concrete block arms are finished. The steps need to be rebuilt and sand added. I would like to think it will only take a few more weeks.

Wife says the fence has been removed and some people are bathing. The diggers are still there. Not sure if this an official move or some people helped themselves, but probably best thing to do regarding the very high temperatures today.

Just read "La Voz" typical beuracrats, the left hand doesnt know what the left hand is doing. Apparently Costas, the construction company were awarded the contract to re new the "levees" or breakwaters. These are the concrete constructions that prevent the washing away of the sand. Problem is the local politicians were not aware that the contract did not include for the replenishment of the sand. The contract cost 3 million euros so the beach wont be finished for the sake of 7000 euros worth of sand!! There is a meeting on Monday 16th to ask the local council of Yaiza to cough up the dough. I assume they should say yes but of course Yaiza council never has any money so dont hold your breath. Looking at end of August now at least for the construction work to be complete ...as for the sand??? Need a dammned good Calima!!!!

At about 5pm, there were about 30 people in the water and on the bits of re3maining sand at the ends. It looks like all the fencing has been taken off site, except for a bit in the middle guarding a drop. My feeling is the contract is over, so wait for the sand!

I tried snorkeling at 6pm. There used to be a lot of fish and I wanted to see how much was still there. Unfortunately the water is so muddy, that I could not see more than a meter in distance under water. I swam across the whole basin and it is uniformly muddy all over the place. No chance to see any fish (if there is any).
