Hi everyone, new member here,i've been lurking for a year or so just reading the posts but i've decided to register.I've been to lanzarote a couple of times before and we are coming over again on the 28th june for a couple of weeks staying at the Playa Verde in Costa Teguise, has anyone got any info on the place as we've never stayed here before. Also,my mate was over in Costa Teguise the other week and said the place was dead, everywhere was shut, bars all closing down etc etc,i think he's winding me up as he knows i'm coming over, please tell me thats the case, could anyone please advise us of a decent place on the Island to visit, normally we hire a car and go up to Haria,Teguise for the market,Puerto Calero for a bite to eat and show my little un the boats, drive through PDC as fast as we can!!! is there any hidden gems where it would be worth a visit, thanks in advance,Paul (mcfc) up the blues!

hi paul,
unfortunatly youre mate isnt winding you up alot of the bars are closed during the day time and those that are open are dead, there are still a few bars that get more in than others, even the beachfront ones are quiet, plenty of people around but mainly staying AI as i was guilty of myself last week (i hated it and wont be doing it again),however its what you make it im sure you will enjoy,i cant wait to get back but will not be ALL INC again.

love meatxx

cheers meatloaf, last year when in Costa Teguise i was talking to a few people who were saying that alot of the bars were closing and people losing money etc,its a real shame,be interesting to hear from people who live on the island and own a business to hear what they have to say.I'm interested because we are in 2 minds whether to move over to Lanzarote to start a new life,Manchester is a greta city but the time has come to move on to do different things and Lanzarote is the place where we fancy uprooting to.

Hi
We were over in May in Costa Teguise. It was quiet, but we prefer it like that anyway! We stayed self catering this time (the first time ever :D :D ) and went shopping in the local supermarkets and ate out in local restaurants. We did this to support the businesses, because they are suffering as a result of the AI hotels.
We found some real restaurant gems, and ate things that were delicious.
We also hired a car and went all the way round the island. I love El Golfo and the restaurants on the seafront. Calamare A La Plancha plus a glass of white wine overlooking the sea = bliss!

I agree with you lizz, surely the whole point of going away on holiday is to go and explore the area you are visiting instead of just staying in the hotel, can never understand why people would want to sit by the pool all day eating and drinking when there are loads of great places to visit. The only time we ever did an all inclusive holiday was in Cuba but after a few days we were bored and decided to go to Havana for a couple of days.

it has been quiet lately but there are no bars closing down to my knowledge! lots of bars and restaurants take their annual holiday around may or june before the summer ( have to have a holiday sometime!) so people might assume they have closed down, without taking time to read the signs on the doors that say CLOSED FOR HOLIDAYS!! people love looking on the bleak side!! all inclusive has hit all tourist destinations very hard this year and for some reason may was much quieter than usual but glad to say thing are picking up and costa was very busy friday night,so come on over and have a good holiday and see for yourself, ignore the doom and gloom merchants!
ps, meatloaf i'm ashamed of you all inclusive!! you should know better! lol

oh and sorry paul,re your original post! the playa verde is a very quiet hotel! saga holidays use it just so you are aware and its right on the outskirts of the town, about a 25 min walk.
the hotel itself is lovely, very clean nice decor etc but quiet!
