Probably this is going to seem like a strange question to ask but has the weather in lanzarote changed noticeably over the past 20 years or so . The reason i ask is that i was a frequent visitor around this time and then stopped going for some years. In the past 2 years i have returned on 5 occasions and 2 of these visits both of 2 week duration were very poor weather wise. One was in early october and the last one was the end of june, start of july this year. This is really the one which has caused me most concern as probably only 3 of the days could be classed as excellent weather wise. Given that there is not an awful lot to do with an 8 year old on a holiday island when the sun is removed it meant hiring a car and having to do unplanned outings at extra expense. We tried on 3 occasions to go to the water park at the insistence of the 8 year old and on 2 of these occasions we had to leave within 2 hours as the weather deteriorated. I love the place but have been really concerned about returning next year. I can accept that out of season you are inevitably taking a risk but was wondering are these events in summer common specificably to lanzarote. Are the weather systems on the other islands more predictable.

I haven't been able to find really detailed stats going back before 1996 (the Datos de Lanzarote site seems to experiencing some difficulties).
I doubt if it's changed much (I haven't noticed). I do remember it being overcast a lot during the early part of last summer - but that was unusual and I'd never experienced it before. In the last ten years I've been told that we've had both one of the coldest and one of the hottest winters on record and I also remember that we got more rain one January than had fallen in the previous three years. I remember November always being bad - but November 2009 was great and this year wasn't bad either.
I think that you've just been unlucky - especially with the end of June, there's always the risk of a bit of rain between November and March though. Normal variation, I think.

It was wunderground that I was talking about - its Lanzarote history only goes back to 1996. The datos de Lanzarote site is back up and running - it's definitely getting hotter: http://www.datosdelanzarote.com/Uploads ... ratura.pdfThat's a study of temperature change between 1950 and 2008.

Really interesting data when you look at it over 60 years. It does seem to be getting hotter

The airline Monarch paid for the coaches and ferry to Arrecife airport. But they left us on the aircraft on the tarmac at Fuerte for 4 hours after we landed. They should have let us off the plane. There was no food and all the drinks had been sold so no refreshments of any description. So in effect, we had been on the plane for 10 hrs without food nor drink. Then it took a further 6 hrs to arrive at CT. We started off with a 1 hr delay at Manchester due to frozen pipes !

Hi Trufflehound
How come they had you land at furte? - same thing happened to my friend in the summer, monarch tried several times to land at arricife but had technical problems and needed a bigger runway to land on so on the 2nd landing at furte decided that was that. It took her 9 hours to get back over via ferry and cab from PB to PDC.
Jayne.
