I've heard the drinking age for lanzarote is 18 although im not sure if its correct. Me and 5 mates, all 17, are going to puerto del carmen in mid july for a lads holiday and wanted to know whether the age IS 18 and if so, are the bars and clubs strict on i.d?. Cheers.

once you look 18 you'll be grand.
But if you dont you will be asked for ID.
Your best bet is to get loads of drink down the shop and get legless in your apartment and then head out.

Being 17 you will feel distinctly OLD in Centro Atlantico and Cesars for example! Would have thought 15 is the average in many!

Clubs aren't clubs so to speak - you can just drift into whichever you fancy and no charge.

Smile, be polite and pleasant and you will get served in 99% of places.
Don´t worry, just enjoy.

Another good tip is don't get drunk and act like you would down your local because the result might be a bit different to what you thought, especially at the weekends.

This is when the locals come out and try and bag as many foreign girls as they can (usually quite successfully!) and not only that but there will be a mini army of Moroccan guys competing as well.
Now most of these guys do not drink (not enough money and/or too vain as their body is their temple) and will all join together if trouble brews.

Now, don't get me wrong.... in comparison to the UK this is paradise. Very few fights, very little trouble, but most of it tends to be over girls or a Brit/Irishman getting a bit too loud and lairy at the wrong people.
By the way.... bouncers here ARE bouncers.
Just use common sense, that's all.

For the record, I look quite young for my age (was 18 at the time, looked more 16) and never once had an issue buying alcohol in Lanzarote, it's much the same anywhere in Europe, they don't seem quite so paranoid about it, neither do they seem to have much trouble either. I always have ID on me anyway, it's in my wallet, but have never once needed it; bars or shops.

The worst by far are the UK & Ireland for ID.

Or, perhaps best. It depends on your viewpoint.
