As I have just returned from PDC I thought I would give my opinion of a few of the restaurants - so here goes:

La Ola - on the sea-front at the end of Playa Blanca (Matagorda side) PDC
Gorgeous restaurant, decor lovely and service excellent, average prices, I ate Seafood soup and then Rabbit Stew which was served with ratatouille and lyonnaise potatoes. Highly recommended!

Nippon Japanese Restaurant - by the harbour in the old town PDC
Fantastic!! From outside it looks fairly uninspiring but once you get upstairs from the little arcade you step into a truly Japanese atmosphere, the staff are efficient and polite and the general ambience is calming with lovely background music. You have a choice of sitting in the general restaurant area or the teppanyaki section, we chose the latter and had one of the set menus which included Sushi, Miso soup, salad, meats cooked on the grill and stir fry veg, followed by fresh fruits and green tea, it is by no means a cheap meal, we shared a bottle of wine and my daughter had two soft drinks and the total for the three of us was £110 but it was well worth it! Very very highly recommended!

El Marineros - next to the harbour - old town PDC
(great location and decor -shame about the food and staff!)
AVOID THIS RESTAURANT LIKE THE PLAGUE!
We were coaxed into this restaurant by one of the 'touts' and were bitterly disappointed, the owner was downright rude and the food sub-standard, we ordered tapas to share and it was unlike any tapas I have ever encountered, it included some deep fried fish-fingers (yes - the birds eye type  ) some salad, a couple of 1/4 hard boiled eggs and some deep fried chilli peppers (not breadcrumbed just plain?), for main course I had spaghetti marinara in which I struggled to find any seafood other than 4 mussells on the tops and the sauce was runny and almost non-existent, I left most of the dish and when the owner came to clear our tables he rudely said - why you no eat is no good? my OH and my daughter were equally disappointed with theirs. the prices were average and I can only assume that they assume that their location is sufficient and that they do not need to provide either good service or good food - You have been warned!

Casa Roja - Rubicon Marina near Playa Blanca
Pictureque setting, great service, wonderful food!
We had lunch here overlooking the harbour, the restaurant is excellent and has an unusual flooring idea - little glass windows so you can see into the sea!
I ate salmon and pasta salad for starter which was beautifully presented and then OH and I shared seafood paella which was lovely, it is quite pricey for 3 courses for three and a bottle of wine the bill was just over £100 but it was worth it
Highly recommended for lunch and I am sure it would be a fantastic setting for an evening meal

 Yikes TracyJane that's quite pricey for Lanzarote although I know they're slightly more expensive restaurants, were you drinking expensive wine ?

Myself and Mrs Ole struggle to spend £40 on a meal for 2 usually and we don't choose a restaurant on price, but we're not big wine drinkers. Maybe next time I go I'll notice the difference due to the exchange rates.

Ole

Hi Ole, we normally have a bottle costing no more than £15, there were three of us, my daughter is 14 and has a very good appetite! I do think though that prices have gone up drastically since last time I was abroad - 2 years ago!

OK, maybe I should start to allow Mrs Ole something more than a bowl of soup ? :)

Strewth £100 for some pasta followed by a Paella!!

Thats a bit sharp!

Restaurant reviews are very subjective - the deep fried peppers you talk of are padrones de piemento - and are normally delicious.

Ole is correct £40 for two will get you a top lunch in most of the spanish places. La Ola is rather ostentatious from what I remember and wasn't remotely to my taste but each to their own!

Think many of the places in the PB are fairly pricey because its newish and have high overheads.

Only place I can think that can justifiably charge you £50 a head for lunch (without going stupid on drink) would be lagomar, bodega and that place in arrecife I can't remember the name of. Oh an La Era in Yaiza but that was closed last I checked.

Hi maybe I have not been specific enough :?

In the marina it was just over £100 and we each had a starter, main course and dessert, I had two large glasses of rose and a glass of cava, OH had a large beer and a coffee and my DD had two large cokes, I know it was extravagant but it was well worth the money, the food was outstanding as was the service!! :D

Well if the customer is happy then all good!

Though do try Brisas Marina, Casa Pedro or even Romantica for a comparison next time you are there.

Yep it can add up with 3 lots of 3 courses plus drinkies but that's still quite pricey - but hey-ho compare that with what you get in the UK for £33 a head !

I went to La Era once and I seem to remember it was actually quite cheap. though I don't think they were too impressed with me wearing shorts !
