Well considering its halfway down the strip am sure any visitors will have made their mind up about the island long before they have got there!!!!

Hi everyone

Well I got back last Thursday :( so I thought seeing as I started this thread I'd give you my feedback on where I ate.

Antica Trattoria
It's no wonder this place comes highly recommended. The food is extremely good, the service is friendly and efficient and the place was packed. I had the best Tagliatelli Bolognaise I've had outside Italy. Would definitely recommend and will return on my next visit.

La Brasa
I wouldn't recommend this place. Distinctly average food and sloppy service. Nobody looked like they were enjoying themselves so I can't understand why it seemed to be popular.

Cafe del Carmen
I like this place. The decor is modern and the view is to die for. I didn't eat dinner there but I had breakfast a few times and cocktails in the evening, they have entertainment on most nights. It was always busy and has really added interest to that area of the strip. Free wi-fi was a bonus.

Terraza Playa
Location, Location, Location. It's all about the view here, being practically on the beach. I had paella which was fine - I've had better and worse. Lovely friendly waitress. Worth a visit, perhaps for lunch rather than dinner to take full advantage of the view.

Da Vinci's
The place was busy, and the service was good, but I was disappointed with the food. Some restaurants will smother a steak in sauce to hide the fact that it isn't quite the prime fillet the customer was expecting. This seems to be one of those restaurants.

Woodleys
This was the find of my holiday! So good it was the only place I returned to for dinner twice in the week that I was there. Recommend the sizzling prawns to start, and the fillet steak with spring onion mash and a choice of sauces to follow. My sister said it was one of the best lasagnes she's ever had and my husband devoured the steak and ale pie (which they claim is the best on the island). My neice is a vegetarian and didn't fancy the option on offer so they made her something based on what she liked. The decor is very cool - upmarket bistro style. When we got a little chilly they bought little blankets out for us to wrap round ourselves. It was always busy - we had to wait at the bar for a table one night.

I also had lunch at The Place a couple of times. Sometime you just fancy something simple like a cheese toastie don't you?! And the view is amazing. We sat outside and we could almost put our feet in the sea while enjoying a bottle of vino. Happy days!

In other news..

Gran Casino Terraza
Unfortunately this is closed, which I was a bit gutted about because it looked a really cool place to eat. A waiter in the Golden Corner said it was due to licensing issues and wasn't sure if it would be reopening anytime soon.

Meson de Marineiro
This was also closed while we were there. I don't know if it was closed for a particular reason or whether it's gone out of business. There was no sign on the door to indicate anything.

I actually prefer the San Antonio end of the strip now, because it has Woodleys and Cafe del Carmen. The only disappointment was the weather - had a good couple of days when we got there but mostly cloud after that. This was my sixth visit to Lanzarote and I've never known it so cloudy. Hasn't put me off though - can't wait for my next visit!

I believe Woodleys is close to Cafe del Carmen. Near to the old Jaspars on the top floor. Not 100% certain.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed yourselves.
I have put Woodleys on the list for next time, never heard of it before.
It's a pity that you didn't get to eat at Emma's Cantina in the old town, that's a great place, the English Rose tea rooms are good too

I agree that sometimes you just fancy a cheese toastie and a soft drink for lunch. We always go to the Way West for that, great views and next to the sea

Thanks for posting your reviews
Danny

You wouldn't have seen Woodleys as it only opened a couple of months ago, work had been on going for a while before that and as stated it was formerly the Molly Malones and if anyone remembers before that it was The Black Country Inn. Heard nothing but good reports.

Ah yeah, remember Molly's, went for a drink there a few years ago.

Cheers for the info.

Slightly tracking out of Carman but in Playa Honda there is
a Vegetarian cafe and take away called Blooming Cactus,
just past Deiland heading towards Arrecife. Look for the
Playa For Bungalows. Have tried and would recommend.

Regarding my question last week on Chinese buffets we visited
one Friday evening and where very impressed. I forgot
the name of it  but its on C/Doramas about 20 yards off
the strip. Los Hobiscos hotel is a bit further up.
Be warned it does not look much from outside with the sheets
hanging in the window to stop the sun but at 5.95e for the Buffet
very good! Only downside is no view of the sea etc...

Keith
