Hi
Looking forward to my upcoming holiday, I've put together a shortlist of restaurants we might visit. This is based on mostly positive comments from various review websites that I've looked at.
I know there will be more restaurants in the old town that could be added, but we're staying in the new town so we are likely to favour the strip most nights.
Would be great to hear any thoughts/comments about these restaurants - plus any other recommendations that aren't on the list.
New Town
La Braseria Gran Casino Terraza Terrazza Playa Meson de Marineiro Dolce Vita La Brasa Antica Trattoria Café del Carmen
Old Town
Casa Cabana La Cascada Puerto Bahia Puerto Viejo Bellenies
Also, there's a newish restaurant called Da Vinci's opposite the Spar towards San Antonio end, which is near where we're staying. Does anyone have any feedback on that one?
Many thanks!

Da Vinci´s was excellent the 2 times I used it. Good service, excellent food and a decent price.

Emma's Cantina in the Old Town is absolutely fantasic.Top quality authentic Mexican food, a bit dearer than the average but more than worth it for quality. Mike is a superb host. Again in the Old Town you should try Mar Casa Benito which is also top quality and covers near enough most tastes. Have a great holiday, we will be over on 1st July. Steve & Claire

Many thanks for the feedback everyone.
My husband loves chilli so may give the proper chilli at Emma's a try one night.
Two of our party are very partial to Chinese. Which of the Chinese restaurants would be our best bet?

I know you are staying in New Town but the BEST Chinese restaurant we have ever come across in PDC is situated in the Old Town. The name is Tesoro de Oro.It is just past the Biosfera shopping mall and believe you me you will not be disappointed. We have eaten in some of the best Chinese restaurants in Liverpool Chinatown and Manchester but this restaurant is just the best. The portions are TOO big and the food is some of the best we have ever had.I totally recommend the Chinese Roast Pork (Char Sui). If you are having a banquet for 3 order the banquet for 2 but for 3 people.i know this sounds bizarre but the portions are that big!and they will do it.This was a tip from people who live over there and eat in the restaurant regularly. A taxi from the Strip to the restaurant will cost no more than 4 Euros. PS We have eaten in a lot of Chinese along the strip from San Antonio Hotel along but this restaurant is by far the best.Hope this helps.

Hi there
I agree with the comment above. The chinese there is one of the best I have ever been to and try and make it at least once when I am there. I usually get a take out in the middle of my holiday when my daughter needs an early night to replenish her batteries.
I can recommend San Miguel in the old town for Tapas. They do half portions so you can have more choice for your money. The service there was also very good. I was disappointed with Puerto Bahia this year. This has been my favourite restaurant for many years in PDC but fell way short of the mark this year. The service is still excellent but the food was not up to much.
Can I maybe recommend Ikarus restaurant in Teguise? I know this maybe a trek for some people but everytime I have gone there I have said that it is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. It was German owned last time I went and is highly recommended.
I hope this helps.

I've always had good food and service in Puerto Bahia. The management there is the best I have seen in Lanzarote, so the service is exemplary, and they treat you like valued, adult, customers. I'm sorry you had a substandard meal.

Not wanting to be difficult..........
But doesn't offering half portions of tapas defeat the object of tapas in the first place?! What do you get - one prawn?! Half a potato?
Still giggling over the thought of having a chinese in Lanza!!

Thanks for the tip for the Chinese restaurant. The people in my party will be glad of the recommendation.
I suppose people should be able to do whatever they enjoy on holiday, and if they enjoy eating Chinese food then why shouldn't they? Personally though, I agree with Foodie on eating Chinese in Spain - why go all that way to eat something you can easily get at home? I can't understand why there are so many Chinese, Italian, Tex Mex and Indian restaurants in PDC. Why aren't there more Spanish restaurants offering fresh, local cuisine? I know there are some in the old town but it's a stuggle to find any on the strip.
I love Tapas - are there any tapas bars on the strip? I heard there was one on a road up the side of mcdonalds that used to be an english bar. Anybody been there?

To be fair Troilus the strip is not the place to go for decent food - its for drinking! Despite its size PdC is sadly lacking in decent eateries. Seems to be a haven of mediocrity. Am normally based in Playa Blanca and once made the trip to the not remotely missed La Ola! Will be a while that I make a trip to PdC on a website recomendation! Although have heard tons of good things about Emmas Cantina too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TapasAlso you have to remember that Tapas is not a canarian thing. There are a few decent ones - Las Terracitas in PB. Place in Yaiza opposite the church and the Farming museum just outside teguise does a decent range too...but certainly not range of Tapas you would get in Andalucia, and certainly no decent sherries to try to. Must admit I could imagine nothing worse than a plate of msg loaded gloop and rice on hols!! I guess if I lived in lanza then yes it would be good for a change.

With the number of villas in pdc I would have thought there would be more fine dining choice. I like a lively resort with plenty of bars, but I also want to eat a good meal that reflects the country I'm holidaying in.
What would be good authentic Canarian dishes to look out for?

There is/was a new Tapas bar opposite the Casino in PdC. The best one, i personally like is La Lonja in the harbour. The big white building with 3 arches.
papas arrugadas con mojo, small salty, wrinkly spuds in a green or red spicy sauce are excellent.

Foodie you really need to get off your high horse. Personally wild horses wouldnt get me into a Chinese restaurant home or away, but if people want to go there then why shouldnt they. Your opinion is just that! YOUR opinion. Also with regard to La Ola which you describe as "not remotely missed", well you lost the argument last time, so why are you trying to enforce "your opinion" on that again? The facts are, whether you like it or not, La Ola IS missed by lots of people.

Thanks for the comments on my post.
I agree when you say that the service and management in Puerto Bahia is the best around in PDC, but I was as dissapointed as anyone when I had a sub standard meal there. I have been going there for at least 15 years.
As for the chinese, I was last in Lanzarote over April and had just over 3 lovely weeks in PDC. I had 1 chinese as we had a night in with a DVD while my daughter got some rest. She is disabled and all the fun in Lanzarote tired her out.
Everyone loves Tapas but again Tapas is not only a Spanish thing. I had Tapas last night and enjoyed it. People post their opinions on this site and thats all. You have just got to take it easy and do what YOU enjoy. If you fancy a chinese then have it, if you fancy a vindaloo for breakfast the do it.
There is far too much worrying going on!!!!
