I noticed on my recent trip lots of stacks of rocks on the coast / beach.
I am guessing these are some kind of memorials for loved ones. Am I correct and if not what are they about?

If you mean the little pyramids of stones of decreasing size on the beaches, they are just made by people amusing themselves. On country footpaths, they usually mark a hidden turn. In PB there are several areas of single large stones balanced on end, and I've seen someone doing it. It's actually easier than it looks.
