Ryanair are reported to be opening its 44th base at.............Arrecife.

It seems to be pointing towards at least a 9 month a year operation, possibly year round if certain Ryanair "asks" are realised.

That's probably good news for Lanzarote but, remember, they are a bit fickle if they do not get what they want. They pulled out of Fuerteventura for example. They are not our favourite but they did take over with flights from Edinburgh after the FlyGlobespan collapse last December (which left us without a return flight until we booked the new Ryanair one).
They have been flying Mon and Fri Edinburgh-Lanzarote since then whereas Flyglobespan only did one flight a week. If there was one thing I'd like Ryanair to sort out it's their policy on Cabin Baggage size. We've seen people getting on with bags way bigger than the rules allow but heard stories of others being stopped and charged to put it in the hold. It all seems too inconsistent and down to whoever happens to be working at the gate.

Ryanair are actually looking at basing 2 aircraft at ACE. But these would only be for a 9 month period. Again, like in Fuerteventura, Shannon, Kerry, Marseille etc , if MOL doesn't get his way then the airport will be discarded.

Well the policy on baggage size is pretty clear. If you are a chancer and are prepared to take the gamble with a bigger bag fine.

I was and a couple of £40 charges and now am super careful to make sure it fits.

I wouldn't worry - I now wait in the queue patiently and look at all the others with borderline size baggage knowing that they are bricking it and wondering whether they will have to repack at the departure gate.

At the end of the day they are significantly cheaper if you play by the rules.

I guess having planes based there means they will be doing early flights out then?

Re. all year flying - you can only guarantee they will be flying for the next 6 months - they will only run a route as long as it is profitable and suits them - they can pull it whenever they want.

Hello all,

My first post :)

Where are you guys getting your information on Ryanair opening a Base in ACE?

Also if it is good info, when is it starting and what would the 9 months of 12 be?

If it happens I'll by you a pint :D

If I tell you i'd have to kill you but there is a certain professional pilots rumour network on the web with very interesting information.
Try a search....

I presume your refering to Prune, no mention on airliners.net and to
be honest I would expect LPA ot TFS to have got a base first. Secondly
9 months is unlikely, if it happens it will be long term, or at least
until MOL throws his teddy out the pram

It´ll mean far more mainland Spanish will be able to fly from their local airports to Lanzarote rather than have to go, as present, via Madrid. Local businesses will need to tap this market; smaller beers (so they don´t get warm so quickly) and decent coffee for example...
