No sharks and no shark nets.

The bathing and boating/jet ski areas are indicated by a line of buoys. That is what people see.

No shark nets, But there are Hammerheads way way out at sea and wont come in shore as humans scare them also Angel sharks closer in and they are harmless as long as you dont poke them in the eye.

I never had any problems swimming out to the line of bouys off the main beach. The water is clear enough to see the larger fish swimming below though - good experience. There was a mermaid out there somewhere though, definately wearing a Newcastle shirt and singing `Blaydon Races` and with a Spenders tattoo on her upper left arm. Love and hat tattooed on her fingers (lost one in a bar brawl a few years ago - caught with her fingers in the till!!!) Seriously, swimming in those waters is safe enough - just have to watch out for the keen wet-suited swimmers wearing tight Asda carrier bags on their heads!!

There are many types of sharks swim around the Canaries, but they don't tell us tourists.

There's loads of Barracuda too.

If you understand Spanish, they sometimes mention in the local press
any big sharks caught by the fishing boats.

They can grow to over 1,000 kilos but obviously don't swim close to shore.

We are not their food so there is no reason to worry. There is a plentiful food supply for them in these waters.

However, I don't recommend using these boogie boards any distance out from the shore. From below ( a sharks view) you will look like a turtle, which some sharks are very partial too.

I have never heard of a shark attack in the Canaries in over 20+ years.

The scuba clubs would have more info on this topic.
