What type of shops can I expect in CT. Are they mainly just small grocery/souvenir shops or are there more commercial shops? Is there a large supermarket as we are going SC and will need some basic provisions? Is it worth a trip to PDC to shop for the likes of Jewellery/clothing or Electric Goods?

Thank you for advice on the electric goods. We are very cautious and would not be inclined to be fooled by the sales pitch of the chancers. Enjoy browsing and might stretch to buying tapes for the camcorder or something like that but would think twice before making any large purchase with so little comeback if things go wrong. What about clothes shops, shoe shops, leather shops - are they available in CT or PDC?

Don't think there's an electrical shop where you can browse. You'll be pounced on straight away.

Although it's out of date it's worth reading my article on shopping - http://www.pinetreecottage.freeserve.co ... pping.html

and be aware of the following advice:

WAYS TO BEAT THE CAMERA CON
(Guide published by Gazette Live)

Take advice from tour rep’s and hotel staff about which outlets can be trusted.

Always shop around - prices can fluctuate considerably from store to store.

Once you’ve decided on a certain camera don’t be persuaded to change your mind - be especially wary if staff begin pressure selling a certain model.

Ask whether they have your preferred product in stock before signing a credit card slip.

Don’t let your purchase out of your sight - refuse if they offer to gift wrap it.

Make sure you get a receipt. A credit card slip isn’t proof of purchase for a particular item... It just shows you’ve bought ‘something’ from the shop.

Look out for orange Spanish consumer arbitration scheme stickers in shop windows.
