Hi,

Can anyone personally recommend this bank? I am considering opening an account but would like to hear from any expat on the island who may bank with Sol in regards to their customer service, general banking etc.

Thanks in advance

I have been with Solbank in PB for 6 years now - originally tied in with a mortgage, now long gone, so I just have a current account. The staff are excellent and speak very good English. They even gave me some very useful advice about my tax return which saved me quite a bit. I use their online banking which seems to work well. The only two slight problems are that they charge for current accounts about €80 a year, and I only know of one cash machine in PB (at the bank) and one in Calero that don't charge for withdrawals. It has to be a Sabadell machine to avoid charges.

La Caixa also charge about €45 every year, less for residents.

I have banked with solbank for nearly 2 years in pdc since living here. I think Walker nailed it. They do charge more and some of their rates aren't as good as other banks. But for ease of use they market themselves as having everything in 3 languages (english, german and spanish) in branches and on the telephone. They send pretty much everything in English and most bank offers are advertised in English. So yes for ease of use if you accept you'll be charged a bit more.

Rich, you remind me ,there's a machine in the block containing the newer Fariones hotel, and presumably at the bank itself in PDC.

Agree with Walker & Rich - have found the staff in PB Sol Bank very helpful.

Deepsix if you open an account just check what they are going to charge you in bank fees quarterly as the account I got offered was to be charged at 34 euro's a quarter but when I went in the mangeress said no you don't that account and I have since been paying 10 euro's a quarter even before I got residencia.

richt71,

Thank you for that, I'm looking to purchase a property so transfer of funds is the first step then I will use the account for general living in Lanzarote.

I am talking with a representive tomorrow (Friday) from the bank so all should be clarified.

Thanks again and have a good weekend
