I don't think I have had 20 sunday lunches out here in 13 years, think I must be the same as you Ole! I even had bars which done Sunday roast but would prefer something else, especially in the summer months. What really tickled me were the people who were sitting at 12 noon waiting to be first served.

My eating habits are a little odd in any case but I could NEVER eat Sunday Lunch at 12:00 noon. I couldn't even get hungry enough by midday !

... I can certainly vouch for The Place ... It's been family owned and run for donkey's years and everything I've had in there has always hit the spot. Great service and a lovely location too, if you can get a table by the terrace near sunset it really takes some beating. Then it's back to Spenders for another drink, & I scream from the top of my lungs "Blame Geordie John" ..... (to the tune of Four Non-Blondes) Hux.

MADSTOCK wrote: Hi Mark,
Avoid Popeye's like the plague is my advice to you unless it's changed hands since November. The staff were rude, ignorant, lazy and lacking even basic hygiene standards on my 2 visits there. I was left waiting at the bar while they chatted with their cronies and when they did come to serve it was like they were doing 'you' a favour. When the barmaid served me (and others) she was coughing and spluttering all over the beers without once putting her hand to her mouth. Also both the man and woman's clothes looked like they could do with a good wash! I dread to think of how the food was prepared ugh..... Maybe Elle or somebody can correct me if I am wrong? The couple I am referring too didn't own the place and they weren't young either.
Keith. No Keith - Popeye's hasn't changed hands. I only know Derek and his wife (the owners) as they own the villa a couple of doors down from us. I don't know the couple you're referring to though hon. Elle xx

The Journeyman Pub, in PdC, the road opposite the Casino do a great sunday lunch. More than enough to fill you up! €7.50, well worth the cash.

Elle is Derek the old bloke with the straggly white hair in Popeyes?!
Its a funny place - must hold the record for number of plasma screens in the smallest area in the world!!
Must admit I wouldn't be ordering food from there either - well nothing more challenging than a cheese toastie. Enjoyed watching the rugby there and can thing of no better place to be drinking guiness and smirnoff ices at 7am watching England batter the kiwis on tour this summer (in my dreams!!)
Can't see the point of a roast in the heat! Nice bit of fish please!

Yes foodie - that's him.
Agree absolutely with you guys about a roast dinner. We have started having one occasionally on a Sunday (mainly because then I can slow braise the meat for a few hours). But we never eat it until the sun goes down. I can't eat a big meal when it's hot outside. I'd be asleep too quickly afterwards, and wouldn't get anything done.
Elle xx

Hi Elle!
Well you've got to agree he does look a little dishevelled to say the least in the bar!
Not saying he has to be clean shaven, smart hair cut, jacket and tie - but he does look like he has got straight out of bed, skipped the bathroom and gone straight to work in his pyjamas many times when I have been there!!
