thought i might start this thread to see how locals feel about the prices being charged these days in supermarkets maybe even tourists. i have stopped using one of them due to the prices they charge which i think is bad when you get charged 5.75 for a pack of english bacon with 5 slices in and not to mention 21.80 for a box of soap powder

Why would you want "English" bacon when there is the wonderful "Spanish" bacon available?
It's smoked, it takes seconds to do and you can eat all of it...don't have to leave big, fat rind bits.
Plus, it only costs a fraction...I got 15 slices the other day for 1,60.

What kind of saop powder do you use? I buy Ariel and it's less than € 15 for the big box

I think your missing the point. Its the rip-off prices that Sue is on about and its not just english foods. Basic foods such as bread and vegetables can be ridiculously priced and whilst the large out of town supermarkets can provide fresh fruit and veg the tourist resorts are usually full of rotten or out of date 'fresh' produce.

Sue why do you not get it through your suppliers to the bar?

Are you not naming the supermarket you have boycotted?

Sue - try Ropers at Playa Honda if you want English bacon, it's much cheaper than the supermarkets.

"SUPERMARKET CRISIS" - A little strong!!!! - I thought that something had happened with the supply train!!!!! As a longterm resident in Costa Teguise, yes I agree, "year on year" prices have gone up, as with everywhere on the Planet - However, quality remains good - Bulk Shopping at Eurospar & Ropers with the occassional trip to Lanzameat, supplemented by the Day to Day needs ex Nettos and the Local Outlets more than satisfies ref Variety & Quality - It's all available, just take a LOOK around!!!!!!

Any chance of some meaningful discussions about OUR Island,in the Forum?

i think everyone missed the point i do get it from my suppliers most of the time but sometimes i just need to do an emergency shop and not go to the bar i did try eurospar last week good prices but naming the shop is Hyperdinos opposite the airport i always used it before when it was vivos but since the takeover proces have gone ridiculous nettos are not much better these days and it doesnt matter whether you are in town (tourist) or out of town i get a lot of lcals in the bar complaining about the prices and if nothing is wrong why is there a group now set up to try to sort out the prices and price fixing tourists sometimes dont mind paying the prices but why should they as locals shouldnt have to either i agree ropers is cheap and the soap powder was skip unfortunately cant use aeriel as allergic to it

but as biffa pointed out in another thread if tourist get ripped-off its there own fault for being stupid and naive. Or was it greedy and naive? In my experience you pay much less over there than we do in the Uk for most things but prices are going up all the time. If you are buying 'english' bacon (which is often Danish) you have got to pay for the air miles is costs to bring them there otherwise why not buy locally sourced food and save the planet?

I tend to buy bacon and most meat products from Lanzameat. They are slightly dearer than Ropers but i find the quality is always there. The bacon is always reasonably priced especially the catering packs. As for me saying that tourists were greedy and naive ok maybe that was a bit over the top and i was referring to the 'bargains' in the camera shops anyway not supermarkets.
