Hi We have just returned from Peurto del Carmen, and we had a very good holiday. Just a few thoughts.
Ir was very quiet, I felt sorry for restaurants with hardly any customers.
A few of the restaurants we had visited 2 years ago were not there, which was a shame as we were looking foreward to having a meal with them again.
Meal prices were very reasonable, but drinks were dear. We paid E5 for a spitit and mixer in Club del Carman which is where we were staying, and not much cheaper else where.
I was suprised by the attitued of some staff, in the little supermarket where we were staying they were not very friendly at all, everyday we went in and greeted them with "Ola" but had no responce, and if we had any quieries about a purchase they couldnt understand what we wanted, I know we should learn the language, but being in the position they are in there must be plenty from our accomodation wanting to shop as it is all self catering. but in the end we walked up to Spar, alot cheaper but I would have stayed nearer and paid the extra. Also we had an icecream from the Italian Icecream kiosk in the strip and she never had anything to say, there was 8 of us and she just couldnt care less.
We had Sunday Lunch at Jaspers and what can I say only "WOW" what a meal, I dont believe anyone could complain out the meal.
I dont know if we will go back again, we have been twice and we have other places to vistit.
So all I can say is "good luck to Lanzarote"
Annie

Spanish (Bimbo) bread can work out much cheaper than UK style bread. €1.06 or less for a loaf instead of €2.30ish for english. Rolls are also good value from €0.25. Carton (sorry?) of wine €0.67, bottles start at €2.30ish. The Veg at Jaspars depends on the chef on the day. I´ve eaten there with Julie a number of times and never found cause for complaint. The meals are gos and you can incude a trip to Teguise Market for the grand total of (I think) €15 per adult. Excelent value.

Glad you enjoyed the roast Annie. The veg we serve is not hard or soft but the way it should be except the mash which is very soft and creamy we use all fresh veg and deffo not smash and Cy is right it is 15 euros for a trip to tequise market on the sunday which includes your sunday roast we had a family in today for roast and they had been to the market but had not seen our advert for the trip and had paid 60 euros in total for a taxi each way then the price of the roast which if they had done it with the trip would have been 53 in total instead of 85 the guy couldnt believe it
But Annie dont let the quietness of the island put you off it is still a great island and May can be quiet it depends on where you go not like Spenders and Jaspars

Not sure why anyone in their right mind would buy plasticy english sliced or bimbo!! All goes stale in seconds in lanza.
The locally baked simple rolls are absolutely fine and far cheaper!

Tried "Jacksons" Bread recently? Definately not plasticy bread, very nice and , fair deal frozen fresh. English style and very soft. Bimbo is bread for Spanish tastes, its fine and makes decent sandwich´s. Yep the local rolls can be great but depends where you get them from. Some break teeth, others soft and fresh.

Fresh local crusty rolls every time for me My friend recently spotted the date on a loaf of Hovis in the Spar in PDC whilst we were on hols and nearly collapsed as it read "sell by" 18th November 2007....this was in April....I had to explain it had been frozen since then and thawed for selling Bimbo reminds me of that disgusting Nimble slimmers bread.....it's only low calorie because it's so small and so "fairy, fluffy" like

Bought a sliced loaf last time I was over and it lasted all week. Just had it in for toast in the mornings, not sure it’d have been great untoasted, but I wouldn’t eat white sliced loaf untoasted anyway regardless of how fresh, prefer the small fresh rolls – but they have to be eaten same-day, in fact they’re often even a bit iffy by late afternoon.
Totally given up on the milk now and just get the UHT / long life stuff, whatever it is, OK in coffee which is all we use it for anyway.
