There are no buses to timanfaya, you can either use a tour or a taxi (could work out very expensive!).
Other option is to hire a car for the day, for €8 per person you get entrance, free demonstrations and also a 40 min coach tour around the mountains themselves.

Car hire for a day would be about 20 Euros. For a week it would be about 120. You would very rapidly exceed that with excursion fares for two or three of you, and you have he flexibility of going where the masses don't go.

We don't want to hire a car - we are only on a short 7 day break - we don't usually move from the pool area- our son loves volcanoes etc and I want to take him - either by bus or taxi - thanks for the advice any way

If you are staying in any sort of complex or hotel they will have tons of flyers for bus trips to timanfaya so might as well wait till you get there.

But....once you have paid for taxi to and from airport plus the cost of going to timanfaya then car hire will def work out cheaper!! We hire one even if going for the weekend - its lovely to drive out there!

But as you say you're not keen to get one!

I believe that Last Minute travel do a South Island tour which includes the volcano´s, Los Hervideros and El Golfo.
Good luck.
On the coach, sit on the side opposite the driver, the views are better!!!

Just googled "booking timanfaya" and found this along with others, never tried them but its just to give you and idea. We hired a car for a few days, did the mountain and a few other trips in the first few days, didnt use it much last 2 days but by then the car had paid for itself really, plus the fact we could go to these places with air con and more relaxed rather than sitting on a sweaty bus. Personal choice though but car hire is very resonable in lanza.
Thomas cook wanted nearly 60 euro per adult and with 4 of us going to the mountain last year the car was only 100 euro for 5 days rather than 240 euro for the 4 of us to go with thomas cook!!!

It seems such a shame to come all this way and then just sit by the pool. If you get a car you can see all the non-touristy bits of the island, which are lovely. You could even get your tan in the day and explore in the early evenings.

Thanks for the advice

This will be our 5th trip to the island. We have previously done the tours etc with a car with our eldest children.

This is a chill out break as, lucky for us my husbands business has been busy, non stop since last September, with him working weekends to catch up Our youngest is happy with the sea and pool and a good book or nintendo dsi.

But he has asked to go to the volcano as my other 2 mentioned it to him, we suggested it and he turned his nose up , but now has had a change of mind.

The owner of the villa we are renting, has suggested that there is a tour place near the big shopping mall, so might take a stroll down to them.

Who knows maybe i will begin to like the sight seeing as I am getting older by the day
