Only tip for good service.
Petrol, no, its a standard price.
Bars/Restaurants maybe 5-10% depending how good the service is.
Never tip friends as they may take it as an insult.
Just use comon sense and you can´t go wrong.
Enjoy your holiday.

No, that would be them accepting a beer or two from a friend.
The bill would already probably be higher than what you paid in the end so you´re not really tipping them.

It is customary to tip the guys and gals who put the fuel in your car for you.

never knew that Mike and been here over 12 years, and never once had a sigh of dismay from any of the attendants in any service station on the island.

Note to myself to bear that in mind.

As for cy.... well him not tipping is another story, he thought tipping was a place in China:D

I must admit I don't tip the petrol attendants either and have never been sighed at or anything. I did tip when I first came here and got looked at a bit wierd so never did it again.

It is nice though not to get covered in diesel everytime I fill up :D:D

My tips in spenders are the tip of my boots.[:p]
If I didn´t feel that the staff in Spenders were highly paid by the big boss I would tip them!8)

I give my change to the SARA box excellently positioned next to the Strongbow cider pump in Spenders!

Only one thing wrong with that staement cy is that you always pay with the correct money!!

I think cymonns main comment ie tip for good service is a good rule to follow. It is a part of life unlike the UK, but we tip most places we go. Remember a small tip can get the point about service accross just as well as a big one. I tip the water man when he delvers to our house, petrol guys, taxi drivers. Pretty much everyone apart from shops / supermarkets.
