Hi we have a holiday home in Playa blanca. Recent changes mean we no longer get ITV and channel 5. We are looking to reorganise and would welcome anyones views on the best way to get some reasonable uk channels.
We originally had a sky system set up. They are now suggesting a new dish at 200+ euros. We already paid 200+ last year for the previous dish.
Are there some illegal systems to be avoided?
Any thoughts?

The bottom line is that we are not supposed to be able to recieve U.K. television here. So to some degree or another anyway of recieving them is dodgy. If you have a decent broadband signal, probably the easiest way to recieve UK TV is with a set top box connected to your adsl there are a number of companies advertising this. There are also a couple of people offering Teleclub which is a small dish that recieves a relayed signal from a large dish somewhere near Femes I believe.

But they could be switched off if they are caught.

If it just for yourselfs you can also download torrents and watch most popular programmes the following day.
If it is for guests personally I would just say you have limited sky and go out and spend some money on the Island :-)

Hope that helps

Ray

Sam,
Ray's right. There is only 2 ways to get UK TV unless you have a 3.1 meter dish now. They are to subscribe to an illegal rebroadcaster (and risk losing your money if it gets shut down) or via the internet. There's a number of ways to recieve UK TV via the net but as stated you need a good stable internet connection for this to work.

Free-to-air Sky (Sky News and whatever else is available) and bring across DVD sets of TV series.

Decent broadband (3MB/S or better), iPad and the Filmon app. You can plug the iPad into the TV with an Apple AV adaptor.

Who do I get to do broadband connection and how much approx is cost?
If I can get a group of people in the neighbourhood together is it feasible to get a large dish to service a number of properties in a small location?
