Hi Everyone,

Just a long shot, off to Lanzarote again in September, this time staying at Villa Maria (booked through James again) in the old town/Los Mojones area. Just wondering if anyones been here and can shed some light on what its like?

Also, the villa is on the Calle De Los Volcanes, now having stayed a bit further up last year near the San Antonio, there were tonnes of Spars/supermarkets etc in the area, just wondering if they are as frequent in the old town?

Thanks a lot people!

There's a Spar in the Biosfera shopping centre, but it's expensive enough. And another one on the left-hand-side of the street as you walk from the Biosfera towards the harbour.

There's also two supermarkets, directly opposite each other, near the top of Calle Reina Sofia. (Head up the hill from the cross-roads in the Old Town).

Los Volcanos is up on the top side of Mojones and I would say the nearest supermarket would be the Hiperdino on Reina Sofia just above the Purple Turtle. A Taxi back to the villa will only cost a couple of euros and most of the excursions if you go on them will pick up opposite Balcon de Mar (by the school) a couple of minutes walk down towards the town from Volcanos.

Thanks guys!

We did venture briefly into the old town last year and it seemed a bit quiet for our liking, but as you say busses/taxis are inexpensive so getting to the hustle and bustle of the 'strip' shouldn't be too much of a chore.

The only downside is we do enjoy heading down to the approach lights at the airport on changeover days (generally seems a popular activity with a lot of people), the walk was bearable in the midday sun from San Antonio, but we may have to bus it down to Matagorda this time, or hire bikes, but £70 a week is a lot to part with.

Looking forward to it though!

The walk down Calle Reina Sofia into the harbour area on an evening is really nice. Be sure to call in at the Purple Turtle and see Keith, Sandra and staff and have a wander around the harbour as it gets dark. The Bus Stop bar (Neill & Trish) opposite the Biosfera is worth a call as is Spenders (John et al) if you get down that way. Nearer to Volcanes is Burki`s Bar (run by a couple of german friends of mine (Burki & Dieter) on the roundabout at the top of Reina Sofia. The Mojones area is quiet and peaceful and well worth the change. We originally stayed at Baranquillo on Calle Arpon up near the Muddy Duck/Casino and have loved every trip to PDC. Regards from Keith, Diane & tribe!!

We're beginning to like the sound of this! we will certainly take a look in these bars you've mentioned.

Last year was my second trip to PDC, having been there many years ago with family, myself and my partner decided to go, this was my partners first visit; and we absolutely loved the place. Went to Costa Teguise a couple of times but it just doesn't have the character and atmosphere we found in PDC, we felt very relaxed.

We did enjoy walking along the Playa de Los Pocillos in the evenings, nice breeze and almost deserted.

Thanks a lot for all your suggestions once again :D

If you want a warm reception at The Purple Turtle - pop in with some Oxo cubes - Keith will love that!! (Can`t get them over there - at least couldn`t last I knew!!). Trish & Neil are great and if you get up to Burki`s, Dieter and staff are very welcoming. I send a lot of F1 and motor racing photographs over to him for the walls in the bar. You will probably get used to that area of PDC and get `hooked` despite it being away from the `hub` of the resort. Enjoy!!

There is so much on the Island to see.
Timanfaya Fire Mountains, Jameos del agua, the Green caves, Mirador del rio, César Manriques house, La Geria (vineyards), Tiagua (agricultural museum), el Golfo (Green pool) etc
Spectacular scenery all over the Island.
