i was put right off this site when i checked in earlier as the whole top stories was filled with spam,isee now they have been removed surley there is someway of controlling this,ive noticed the other two main lanza forums dont have this problem,i dont expect someone to sit up all night watching but there must be away.

I'll assume meatloaf will PM. One forum is currently having real problems staying on line - I think it's their server. The other one is rigorously policed, and I think each application to join is carefully scrutinised befor people are let on. It seems on this forum, nearly all the spams come from people purporting to be in the far East, Russia or the US. with the honourable exception of Cymmon, the moderator ought to refuse all applications from outside the EU.

I am myself admin/global moderator on a Norwegian forum very much like this one and also powered by phpBB software. Even with maximum security/screening turned on, it is impossible to keep them out. That is unless you begin scrutinizing every single applicant manually. Some forums do, but the amount of work involved is much more than anybody would want to take upon themselves. (depends a little on size/popularity of the forum).

This spammer "wu123" who has been on here lately with the handbagstuff is typical and notorius. The admin seems to have thrown him out several times already, - but he reregisters just as quickly and that even/typically in the middle of the night. Now, - in addition to have his account deleted, the admin could block entries from his IP-address, block entries by username and/or block by emailaddress. But the clever spammers have ways around all this unfortunately.....

Hopefully the admin reports these scumbags to the proper anti-spam registers. It is not until they have been properly registered there and done some real harm that one may expect them to go away.....

Until that happens we shall have to live with their activity which to a great extent is automated and robot driven. You see this clearly when you realize one spammer is posting in another spammers thread......

Admin may want to consider to appoint moderators to help him out when it comes to delete unwanted posts, - but with the current number of posters here, - he may not need that extra hand.

But Admin, please keep up the good work. It is as said, a seroius turn off to find all the top threads spammed when you log on....
