Our cruise ship will dock in Lanzarote on Wednesday, April 16 from 8am to 5pm. We do not like taking ship's shore excursions. What would you propose we see and do during the short time we have? We are talking about one or two couples. Is public transportation easy? We would like to see the caves if transportation there and back is easy.

However, since we do not know much about this island we sure would appreciate any tips on what to see & how to go about it. Is renting a car feasible? We have seen that there seems to be a great tour guide on this forum but his prices are, unfortunately, out of our range(45L)per person per day.

All suggestions on "Must see" welcome.

There are lots of things to see and the green caves in the north are great and also next to jamos del auga which is a little peace of heaven on earth.....but talk to cy off here maybe he can do you a deal for a few hours ..... he is the best guide to the island..much better than ship/coach tours......its worth the money - Jase

If you decide to hire a car, head north and enjoy the Jameos del Agua, then the Cuevas de los verdes, and stop at Arrieta beach bar for a bite (they're chicken in peppers, "Pollo con pimientos" is the best on the island) and a drink before visiting the Jardins de Cactus in Guatiza on your way back to the ship.

You can hire a taxi for the day €250 with no entry fee´s paid for.
The bus service is no use to visit Timanfaya etc.
You can use the cruise transfer to take you to within 10 mins of Arrecife, beware, its closed from 1330 until 1630.
Take the cruise line excursion, normally around €44 for half Island or use other tour companies.
Car hire firms are available but if you don´t know the Island you will miss lots of views.

The tour to include 2 entrances would be €60 per person.

Lanzarote is a beautiful Island, don´t miss the beauty.
