We are curently looking at flights out for xmas and have taken a look at some of the villas on offer.
We are coming out with my 2 children and parents in law,who after last xmas in Fuerteventua, wish to be closer to the main resort.
Which areas would you recommend to look at villas in that is pretty central - (think they would like the new marina bit?)
Thanks

los brisas, its a complex near the bus station and ferry. Marina is a bit far from the ferry and I found the Marina area to be a bit dead when there three weeks ago. Other than that, try ebay and you could be lucky with the marina area

There are a few villa complexes near Las Brisas, it depends on whether you're looking for a villa on a complex or in a residential area, maybe with a private pool. Parque del Rey and Costa Papagayo are fairly central residential areas.

Las Brisas has a sister development next door called Las Casitas. Both are very nice - we own 2 weeks' timeshare on Casitas ourselves. The managing company Wimpen handle lettings on both of these; to find out more go to http://www.wimpen.com and follow the links. Casa del Sol and Puerto Chico are also very central, and are tailor-made holiday 'villages'. You won't go far wrong with any of these 4. Hope you find what you need soon! -Miles

Thanks for all the tips guys - looking at some on "Villas Del Sur". Realistically how far is this from Marina Rubicon, local shops and Playa Blanca.?
This may sound a dumb question after reading villas descriptions, but have elderley in laws with us and last year we hired a villa in Fuerteventura which said 10 mins to main resort and was more like 30 up a hill which meant lots of taxis!!!
Thanks for all your replies!

Marina is not really in the centre of Playa Blanca - it about a 10 min walk for me - but I'm 30 odd not 70 odd.
Most of the retirees live in the developments mentioned previously Casitas, Las Brisas and Casa Del Sol which are the oldest developments on the island and ideally located for strolling down to the town centre.
But many of them are a bit on the small side - will be a bit of a squeeze for 6 of you.
Villas around marina are newer and larger and may have private pools too. Depends what you want but if you google "3 bed villa playa blanca" or variations of that you will get tons of suggestions. And def negotiate as there are loads of villas sitting empty at the mo.
You prob want to hire a car as will pay itself back just for the cost of transfers from the airport.

I bet many villa owners will be giving discounts if you offer to pay up front. Theres a recession on - you may have heard about it

Everything is negotiable these days - even got 10% off a sofa in John Lewis of all places last week.
Villa rentals no different.

Nonsense.
Perhaps you could explain your experience of booking a villa for Christmas or New Year.

Experience?! Well it was rather straight forward.
For 3 of us to go for a week the cost was a grand. I emailed saying we would pay £800 cash via bank transfer the next day if they agreed to the discount. ie. no credit card fees. They said £875.
I agreed.
OK so theres a risk that if they go bust am not covered by credit card etc.
Ditto John Lewis - saw sofa for £800 - Said I would give them £650 cash if I took it now. Spoke to manager. They said £725.
I agreed.
Bored yet or shall I tell you about the LCD TV at Currys.....
Everything is negotiable - the rules have totally changed.

I'm with Foodie on this one. In the current climate there's some great bargains to be had out there be it Villa's, holidays, electrical goods or services etc. Never be afraid to ask and move on to the next person/store and remember, if you don't get it cheaper then you can always go back to your original choice. If you don't ask you don't get, simple. I've just booked five days at Pontins (OK so it's not Lanzarote) in August for £94 for all 4 people. Bargain.
