I was changing sterling in PDC at the asian shops/camera places, first time I changed £150 and was given 10 Euros short then at another store changed £300 and was given 20 Euros short, mentioned the error and was given correct amount. Started to use different shop after this and no errors,so would advise to double check before leaving store

I changed 500€ in an Asian shop in P.B. recently. Was given 50 Euros too much in error, should have seen the look of shock when I gave it back to him. Still gave me 1 cent less than they were advertising on the door Ray

In PB, the Sara Asian shop is usually the best. They always give 1 cent less than they say, but then explain it's for cheques if you offer cash, or for cash if you offer cheques. Someone should offer a mix! I'd certainly work out the number of Euros I expected to get beforehand, then, when handed them, count them again in front of theshopkeeper.

I always do it in multiples of 100, to make make the calculation easier.
And yes, you do have to watch these shops!
(And, it must be said, the banks who'll charge you 30 euros to change £100!)

Another hands up from me too, I've also been short changed when exchanging sterling. I've always pointed it out and got the "extra" back, but they'll be people who don't check or are afraid to say something
Happy Holidays Danny

In this day of plastic why would you take money to change up ? Surely take some with you when you go and use ur card for dinners...presents etc ?

I know Jason - weird isn't it - but some people insist for whatever reason to take out all there spending money with them in sterling.

Danny316 wrote: I use my nationwide card now Jason, but I think I read somewhere they were going to start charging to withdraw cash abroad soon From Nov 1st, £1 a go in an ATM +2% if you avoid withdrawing small amounts it will still be better than most other ways of exchanging cash and still much safer than travelling with £1000 + sterling in cash. And the £1 a go charge doesn't apply in shops/restaurants etc, only ATMs.
