Orzola
Lanzarote's most northerly village is a far cry from the major tourist resorts of the south and you really will feel like you have arrived at a remote settlement as you drive into the town. This is in itself Orzola's appeal – you get the impression that the locals couldn't care less about what is going on in Puerto del Carmen, which seems a long way away when you are enjoying a plate of Lapas in one of the harbour-front's row of seafood restaurants.
The harbour, which is currently being improved, serves as both a home for the tiny local fishing boats and the departure-point for the ferries going to the neighbouring island of La Graciosa.
There are two nearby beaches:
Caleton Blanco - a stunning bather-friendly crystalline lagoon surrounded by white sand and blck lava.
Playa de la Canteria - a desolate but striking cliff-backed beach, accessible by dirt-track, that is often deserted due to strong currents.
