Hello all, just wandering what are the average costs of living in pb? I am looking at moving there in two years but need to know roughly how much I will need to earn to get buy. I will have a regular pension of 1200 euros a month so I can work for the extra I may need, I will be 42 by then, I will be paying a mortgage also so obviously the payments will come from the pension, although the mortgage will be quite small. Any replies are welcome, oh and by the way it's pouring down in uk and it's freezing!!!

How much is your mortgage? Do you want to drive? Do you smoke? Do you drink? Will you need the Internet wired into your apartment/bungalow/villa? Do you want to live on your own? Do you want to share?

Do you have family/dependents? Pets? Expensive habits? Are you vegetarian? Do you drink coffee/tea? What about fruit - that can be relatively expensive on the island?

How often would you like to fly back to the UK?

All of the above and more will determine your cost of living in Playa Blanca.

I'd suggest visiting for two weeks, call in to a few estate agents, have a drink in some ex-pat bars, check the supermarkets, etc. Then you'll have a much better idea of your living costs.

Very roughly, and it depends both on the property and your habits, but your power bills will be about €1000 a year, council tax about €400, if you are on a community, their fees will be about €400 a year, unless they have communal features like a pool in which case that may add another €300. Water will probably be about €300 a year. Food and drink in PB is in total, about the same as UK, petrol is cheaper and you don't use much. A combination landline and broadband is about €50 per month. A current account can cost €90 per year, but if you have regular monthly payments into it, it can be free.

Could well be, Foodie, I was guessing the additional charge for a communal pool, garden, tennis courts etc. ours has none of these, so we just pay for communal lighting, cleaning etc.

Ours is a small complex of 34 villas with communal pool, and we pay €1200.
