What a great site, i will be visiting on 25/01/07 for a week, just a quick tip, whilst in Tenerife some years back i was in an electrical store just brousing, and i could hear a conversation with a Welsh lady and the salesperson, she was buying some games of some sort for her son, she was arguing with this guy that she could buy them cheaper in the UK. he said no way they were a lot cheaper than the UK. she then took out an Argos book from her bag and showed him the price of them back home, he just stood there gobsmacked, round one to the welsh lady, he then started shouting in his native language to his fellow mates and pointing at said lady,to which she gave him a mouthfull in Welsh gave him the V sign and walked out.
Game set and match to the Welsh lady.

Oh how i laughed, you could have heard a pin drop in the shop.

We have just returned from a fantastic break in Lanza and hope soon to be retuning there for good! However on topic, we notice a new twist to the electricals & cameras scams. When a punter enters the shop and is grabbed by the salesman he/she is pulled into the sales patter. If there is interest from the punter someone will wander past and make a positive comment to the salesman about the quality and value of his goods. Usually the person is a European/Caucasian to give the scam credibility, and I guess gets a small retainer for doing it. This is an old technique like false bidders as used in UK markets for years. So beware!

In Playa Blanca at the camera shop opposite the clothes shop Blue Marlin on the pedesrianised shopping street, there are at least 3 or 4 Asian guys standing at the doorway, trying to get you in, over the festive period when we passed by with our 2 year old daughter they threw fire crackers at the floor. I am not sure if that is the correct name for them, maybe they are called bangers.

We are talking grown men here, intimidating and frightening passers by. I won´t have anyone cause any upset to my child so when they persisted to do it, despite the fact she was crying her eyes out I gave them a mouthful, both in English and Spanish to make sure it was understood. If I had had more time I would have reported it to the police.

They just called me crazy (yeah I may be but all the same..) they could not understand it was wrong nor did they seem to care when I told them no one was going to come into their shop whilst they did that. Tossers. Their neighbouring shop keepers were also upset by it but they seem to let them get away with it.

Having read all the previous comments and experiences - it makes me feel a bit better about being conned in a similar manner.Just totally suckered by a pack of lies by , we guess , Indian 'salesmen' . So just to reiterate the warning to anyone going to Lanzarote - beware and keep well clear of any 'tempting prices' on digital cameras and the like.We ended up in the same position as described by others - sold a total pup of a camera ' YberSONYcam' - I mean how stupid can I be ? and when we took it back - no refund.Ended up paying 60 Euros more for a proper Sony camera - so we at least had something.Total cost 280 Euros - Could have bought it back home with a real warranty and better memory for £79 or maybe less.Keep clear of all those dealers especially PdelCarmen Seaview Datsuns or Monarch Electrics or some othe rname. Anyone got any contact details to try to complain to the authorities.we didn't get offered a Claims Form - so want to report the conning b**t***s

Hi - Thank God I read the comments on this website. I have just returned form Tenerife and the Indian conmen are the same in Las Americas. However, this time my wife wanted a small camcorder to record our one-year-old in the pool. I was offered all the models mentioned in this feedback but the salesman was pushy with a "Penta" model. He said it was made by Pentax but would be a lot more expensive if it said "Pentax" on it - a likely story !!!

I didn't bite and immediately set to work on the internet. The Sony models were fakes and Penta is not made by Pentax.

BEWARE THE CONMEN.

MEGA PIXEL in Playa Blanca. We also had a nightmare in this shop. 9 salesmen in total in this small shop one day. My husband had rung his dad to tell him that it was cheap to buy camcorders so his dad said try and get him one. The salesman showed my husband a DVD camcorder and that the cost of the camcorder, carry case and DVD disk would be 201 euros. My husband said great we'll have one. They brought chairs for my husband, myself and our two children and they also brought beer and soft drinks. My husband gave his visa card and they swiped the machine with the details. The salesman said it would be a few minutes while they rang through and verified the card details. My husband asked could he see the camcorder working, so the salesman showed us on the screen. He then asked us did we have a machine to play the DVD's on. We said yes we have 4. He seemed quite shocked we had 4 and said do you have 4 finalisers!!! Whats a finaliser we asked, he said its a machine that you need to finalise the DVD's so you can watch them on your TV. We said no we don't have one of those. The salesman said well they cost 1,300 euros so my husband said well we will have to leave it then but the salesman said well you can't you have bought it. We said we don't want it if we can't use it just cancel the transaction. The salesman said I can't do this, so my husband said well you better, he only raised his voice a little and the man said if he didn't keep his voice down he would escort him out of the shop. At this point I thought my husband was going to plant him! (While this was going on a few english customers entered the shop but quickly left, lucky for them). My husband asked to speak to the manager, who came over and said he could give us a different camcorder for an extra 136 euro's. We said no thanks we just want our visa transaction cancelled. The manager just walked away. The other salesman said just take the machine you have bought and leave the shop. My husband said I don't want it but the salesman said he would not give him the refund. At this point my husband told me to go and get the police. I walked out of the shop and went to another shop up the road to where we had bought a football kit for our son. He was so helpful and told me that he had heard loads of complaints about this shop and that it was giving playa blanca a bad name. Just as he was about to ring the police for us my husband walked past with the cancelled visa slips. We were lucky we only wasted a couple of hours of our lovely holiday time. My husband rang the visa company straight away and told them not to take any payments that were processed in Lanzarote, they said they had not received any phone calls for verifying the details but would make sure no payments were taken. Needless to say we have booked to return next year but will stick to buying cheap gifts such as t-shirts, coral bracelets, etc. :D

<font color="maroon"><font size="4"><font face="Comic Sans MS">OK, on the other hand then.........

People will rip off tourists in every country in the world. The bottom line is as Simon says & 'Let the buyer beware'. Don't leave your common sense at home when you shop. If you have doubts, go away for 'a coffee' to think about it, and bang the product details into google, (it'll cost no more than €1 in an internet cafe).

I got my elctricals from a place next door to Ikea. It's an electrical cash 'n' carry, Nor y Sur.

Good selection, good prices, perfectly fair in my experience. No English spoken though, so know what you want.

One happy shopper :D</font id="Comic Sans MS"></font id="size4"></font id="maroon">
