Last Year in Playa Blanca i bought a 6million pixel Digital Camera (branded MXJVC) - I have now been told by JVC that it doesn`t make such a camera and that there is a manufacturer selling the above Camera and a Camcorder (branded DVxJVC) in the Canary Islands that are not JVC products - so be warned !!! This is getting Playa Blanca which is a really great location a undeserved bad name

it happens all over canary islands unfortunately. i spoke to someone who bought a sony product and was told by sony when they arrived back in UK that sony does not make that particular product.(cant remember if it was a camera or camcorder) i would advise people to stay clear of these so called bargains.

Hi - Our holiday rep told us to keep away from a lot of the electrical shops selling so called "bargains". We were advised of one place to shop that was reputable, the shop's name was Vasante / Vasanti (not sure on the spelling ) and if i recall correctly they were based in PDC.

We too were conned by Mega Pixel in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote, when we bought a camcorder but perhaps I take the biscuit for stupidity. We bought an MP3 player for our grandson and thought we got a fair deal, that’s when they produced a camcorder and eventually reduced the price to approximately £76 we said would consider it and left the shop .
My wife and I are both in our late fifties and thought we could have fun using a camcorder with the grandchildren. So we went back and I made the mistake of asking if I could see a better one than the one he showed us, this is when the apprentice conman was replaced by the master conman, from then on we were completely suckered and hustled by this man talking about something we new nothing about. After what seemed like hours we bought one for 556Euro but it didn’t end there he continued to show us the most up to date camcorder on the market which would be much simpler for us to use according to him, this would only cost us another 825Euro a total of 1381Euro and we agreed to buy this wonderful camcorder which was a Digilife 7000.
We done some checking the next day and realised how we had been conned and how stupid we were to expect fair play and assistance from these people. The camera was only worth a couple of hundred Euro. So we headed back to the shop were we had a heated confrontation but they insisted that I was wrong. They pointed out to me that there are no refunds but to show their goodwill they would change the camcorder to a much better one. I had no way of telling what sort of a deal I was getting now. So I took the change which turned out to be a Samsung VP-D353 which is worth about 400Euro.These people are crooks and should be exposed as such. I feel sick about the whole episode. We are too embarrassed to tell our family the whole truth because we feel so stupid.

I'm a smoker. I use a Zippo (petrol) lighter. Let me tell you a story.

Several years ago, on the way back to our apartments (casino end) from the beach, my lighter ran out of petrol. As we were walking back I popped into all the tobacco shops to see if they sold petrol. None did. We had got as far as the Rocas Blancas Apts & was about to give up. A few shops down from these apts was an electrical shop. Outside the shop was a display of Zippo lighters. So I went in & asked if they sold petrol for my lighter. "Yes we do", the Indian chap behind the counter said, "let me see your lighter". I gave it to him, & he filled it, without asking, & said "€10 please". I thought for second & said "I'm not paying £7+ for a can of petrol". He said, "that's for filling it, NOT the can". After a heated argument for at least 10 mins, I threw €1 at him & stormed out of the shop.

Moral of the story.........

DO NOT USE THE ELECTRICAL SHOPS IN LANZA, UNLESS RECCOMENDED BY THIS OR OTHER FORUMS! YOUR MONEY WILL GO UP IN SMOKE.[:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!]

We also have had a bad experience whilst purchasing a digital camcorder in Playa Blanca, Lanzerote. This time, the product itself seems ok - we have had it checked over in a local JVC store. However, in the meantime, the shop where we purchased the camcorder have used my husband's credit card details and put through around 14 additional transactions through their machine amounting to around £ 3,500 worth of fraudulent transactions! The bank and fraud department are in the process of sorting it all out, however, we have been through an enormous amount of stress and worry. My advice would be DO NOT BUY ANY DIGITAL GOODS FROM THESE DODGY TRADERS. For the sake of a relatively small amount of money that you could save, buy the stuff back home.

I too have been conned on the MX JVC scam - wasted 453Euros at:

Seaview Datsons S.L
C.C Morana
L – 7 Avda.Las Playas, 12
Pto.del Carmen 35510 Lanzarote
Tel 928 51 16 77

I'm reporting it where I can, forums, British Tourist newspapers, the Lanzarote trading standards etc.
In the hope it'll save others from these B's

I live here in Lanzarote and am hearing, far too often, these stories. I really sympathise with everyone who has suffered. Unfortunately unless the crime, because that's what it is, is reported here to the Police and the person who has been conned will agree to come back to attend the court for the trial these people will continue to trade.
Posting a message of these forums is a good way of letting people know but these forums do not reach everyone so a lot of people will still be conned. Unless these shops are fined and closed by the Police we will be reading many of the same comments in the future.

Thanks Ann - Shame I couldn't stay over there. I'd love to be able to afford to come over for a case. I have reported it to the local trading standards and reported to several English language newspapers and various forums like this one. From what I read on the various forums the police don't seemed bothered anyway. The best I can do is inform people. Thanks once again for your support

If your fake camcorder came with any bundled software, I suggest email the software company too. I have just emailed Ulead telling them. Hopefully they may investigate too. We'll get the sods

<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">Well done Robert. It is comforting to know we are not alone in feeling total prats. My friend and I have been conned by Microtech of Playa Blanca. This also was a Digilife 7000. We returned from a 2 weeks holiday on the 8.12.05 to find my bank balance had reduced bt £567.44. My friend was also charged this amount plus £420 for 2 512mb SD cards. The shock was increased when we found out the price for the camera was £129.99 and the cards £44.99 each. I feel so bitter we would willing trave back to any court hearing to wipe this scum out of a lovely resort like Playa Blance. If this continues Playa Blance will become known as the robbers paradise. 4 years ago I purchased a digital camera a a very good price at this resort and had no trouble, maybe this lead me into a false sense of security or sucummed to the great master conmans charms:(

And it's not only Lanzarote where this is happening. My daughter who lives in Norway had a week in Gran Canaria and fell for the same thing. JVC, BUT HAS SINCE DISCOVERED IF THE CAMERA IS A GENUINE JVC,it doesn't say so on a sticky label that can be stuck on by any bunch of chancers, it is imprinted into the actual thing, but why is everyone buying abroad, when there are so many bargains at home in UK, and at least you only have to drive a short distance to complain if something is wrong. My advice is enjoy your holiday and forget buying anything digital or electrical.:)

Hi Everyone

We fell for the same trick - twice - i am ashamed to say. We bought a JVC camcorder and found out there is no such model. Then I saw a pair of Wahl hairclippers and said that was a good make. My other half then went into the shop and said he wanted the clippers and then the shop assistant said "hang on, i can get you a better set for a couple of euros more" being as he didnt know one from the other, he was talked into buying the other pair (a make i had never heard of) and brought them home to me. I said that they were not very good and to go and change them for the Wahl and when he got there and asked for them to be changed, he was told they had just been sold (yeh right). What they do is when you pick something to buy, they try and make out they are doing you a favour by offering you something "better". Then they totally rip you off. I will never ever buy anything from those electrical stores again.
