Apparently TUI have a new cruise starting in November that calls in at Marina Rubicon in Playa Blanca instead of Arrecife.
I've always thought that Cruise ships landing at Arrecife probably damages tourism on the island since your first impression of Lanzarote would not be particularly attractive! That said, I can't imagine that Marina Rubicon could take a large cruise ship.

The cruise sails from Portsmouth.

Can you provide a link to the source of that info, please Gliiterball? Marina Rubicon is only suitable for boats up to about, say, 50 Tonnes, and cruise ships are usually more than about 20,000 Tonnes. There has been some talk of extending the harbour[ to take cruise ships, but it is only talk.

Really, I thought my post was neutral - only stating what I thought were facts and asking a question. However, since you ask, I don't have any objection to cruise ships coming to PB. What about you?

Since posting, this has popped up on another forum, where someone has said that cruise ships have called here before, using tenders to take people ashore. Also, apparently, the Marina can take ships up to 70 metres long a bit bigger than I thought, but certainly not full blown cruise ship size.

no i think p.b will be a better option than arrecife,it is a shame they cant get area smartened up where they dock in arrecife.as i really like the capital, some great shopping and eateries.

When we first came to Playa Blanca the cruise ships docked off the harbour and the passengers we tendered in.
