Hi folks

Just joined the forum in the hope of picking up some expert advice for my upcoming holiday in Playa Blanca in just over 2 weeks.

We are self catering and whilst we will be eating out a few times we will also need to stock up on food for other evenings and for lunches and breakfasts. I am really looking for somewhere that it reasonably priced obvioulsy but am keen to find a place with a good selection of fruit/veg as well as fish and meat.

Obvioulsy, i am based in Playa Blanca so will do most shopping there, but I have a hire car and don't mind sacrificing one morning to travelling further afield to stock up on produce that can be frozen.

Any help that could be given would be much appreciated.

There's a large Hiperdino supermarket in PB, near the centre of the resort.

Ropers, opposite the airport in Playa Honda has superb, fresh food. Both meat and veg, also frozen and specialist. Not the cheapest but excellent quality. May be worth at least a look.

Agree Ropers is good, but avoid it like the plague on a Saturday or just before a public holiday, unless you want to sacrifice most of the day! We use the Lanzarote Cash and Carry quite a lot, which is located a bit further down the slip road pointing towards Yaiza - basically, you've got Ropers on your right as you approach a very busy roundabout. Take the 2nd turnoff towards a string of more shops/showrooms, pass the big Hiperdino (which also has a very good range of foods, possibly the best on the island in fact, but again not the cheapest!) - Lanzarote Cash and Carry is straight ahead.

Ropers has the best greengrocery, though. Take your pick James!

ps. we also use the Hiperdino in PB because it is convenient - but they regularly run out of the most basic stuff, its pricey, and you'll wait for hours at the cold meat counter! There's a good Fruiteria across the square from it, though.

Couchers - fantastic thanks for that. From the sound of it, it may make sense to use the Hiperdino in PB for everyday stuff but get in a big weekly shop at Ropers and the Hiperdino near the airport on the Friday (day after we arrive). Can anyone use the Lanzarote cash and carry or is it only members or people in catering? Also, how difficult is to find these places when driving from Playa Blanca?

Again, much appreciated and thanks for the info.

Ropers and the hiperdino at Playa Honda are annoyingly tricky to get to due to the roundabouts!!

If you are coming from Playa Blanca you get off at the exit straight after the airport, think is signposted Playa Honda Industriel zone something like that. You turn left at the first mini roundabout so that you are running parallel with the dual carriage - now here is the fun bit......

You want to get under the dual carriageway but the rounabout here is carnage - best get in the OUTSIDE lane, as you have priority (opposite to UK), when you come out from under the bridge Ropers is right in front of you. If you go straight ahead there is a dirt track, so just park anywhere. To get to the bigger HiperDino (formerly Vivos to lots of locals) head back on the local road parallel with the main road as if going back towards PB and its set back on the right after about 100 metres.

PHew. We prob shop less there now than we did mainly because of the hiperdino in Playa Blanca, the fish monger in the PB harbour and the new fruiteria there too.

 That sounds stressful.

Thanks again but when you mention the roundabout which is carnage, am i turning left at this one as well to get under the dual carriageway and when you mention the Outside lane is this the far right hand side? :? :?

Sorry for the confusion.

YOu just want to go straight across it and park.

That roundabout is a complete free for all. Stick in the outside to be safe don't try and be clever! Its actually very easy to find just a bugger to describe!

Hey James,

i agree with all hints given so far :D If you should get sick of preparing your own food, we are happy to prepare some British Style Sandwiches or even Picknics for the beach for you.

Malcolm
