Oh no....it is that time of year again...SCHOOLS OUT !!!!!!! 8) 8) .....for summer......ah bless to see the smiles on their little faces, and the grim looks of their parents as they contemplate almost THREE whole months of having the little darlings at home
Wonder if my hormonally challenged teenager will make it to at least next Monday.....without informing me that ...SHE IS BORED !! ....and such an exciting week too...the Brexit referendum next Thursday ( will sit up all night to watch the pundits guess the result...whoopee ) and on Sunday it´s the Spanish General Election (AGAIN :( :( )...yeah I know we had one in December gone....but... well no one really won so...lets do it all again....so no one can really win again this time round   ....but another night sitting up and watching the pundits again (in Spanish this time).......I mean how can they possibly be bored...I ask you

Hopefully it's stay for the UK and the socialists move into Spanish government on an anti austerity, yet sensible programme to boost Spain's economy.

This may need help if the Uk leave Europe as the Euro will gain and cause the spending power of the British to dwindle, double dip recession, UK and abroad if out.

Well Im 100% for brexit and if you still lived in what was once called GREAT BRITAIN you would know why most people in our country want to leave the EU with mass imigration, the NHS in turmoil ,over crowded schools, not enough housing for everyone, two weeks to get a GPs appointment and still more people are coming in by the day.
Yes most people know we are taking a big risk by leaving but its a price worth taking to to stop us becoming a small part of this undemocratic superstate and hopefully this country can be called GREAT BRITAIN again.
So think again anyone is contemplating returning to this once great country of ours.

Hmmmm....wondered if someone would trot out the same things about the EU to blame for immigration....the policy is the same throughout the EU..so why are the other countries not swamped too :?: :?: :?: ---answer the EU is not to blame--- the UK Govt chooses to allow people to have benefits ,health care, etc  .....Most of the other EU countries DO NOT :!: :!: ( those that do have similar problems -- accept their national legislation is to blame,,,not EU legislation :? )...so fault of your UK Govt. then not the EU ( but like other countries toughening up your laws to exclude immigrants also means including UK residents in those exclusions too )
Same with NHS and housing...other countries DO NOT offer this so again fault of UK Govt. too !!!

´So actually all the things you want to leave the EU for....well they will be the same whether IN or OUT !!!  ....common sense dictates that you put blame where it is due...ON YOUR ELECTED GOVT: :? :? and instead of a referendum of going or staying...might be better off having a General Election and voting a party in who will toughen up YOUR rules rather than blaming the EU for Britains woes

As to being subsumed into an undemocratic superstate :( .....shhh don´t wanna spoil your argument...but unlike many EU countries the UK has a pòwer of veto over most legislation...that they do not use it....well that is once again down to the UK Govt  ....and not the EU
Anyway if you want to cut your nose off to spite your face  ..go ahead....see you when you come crawling back to be let in again ( on much more unfavourable terms) after discovering it is a big and lonely world out there, when you are an insignificant island excluded by the big boys
PS the ´´Great ´´in Great Britain refers to the fact that it includes Scotland and Wales too....not that it has achieved ´´greatness´´ ----you know... as in what it says on your passport ...The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

PPS I lived in a pre EU Great Britain ,,,,and all I remember of it was...constant devaluations of the pound.....wage and pay freezes.......runaway inflation...long queues at dole offices....3 day weeks....TV having to stop at 1000pm because of power cuts...a limit on 50 pounds you could take abroad...round after round of strikes...exploitation of workers as they had few rights....oh and of course the biggie :!: :!: ....everybody blaming immigration ..from the Commonwealth that time

What makes me laugh is Ex pats like yourself telling us how the Eu is doing such a great job for Great Britain when you have never lived here for years and why places like (Dodge ) Lanzarote as such terrible places,
So why dont you come back and live here full time instead of spouting off about why its such a wonderfull place to live but you wont because thats why you probably left in the first place and dont want to return.
P.S EU means open borders for every tom dick and harry and not for the people with skills that are needed in our country

First and foremost...I AM NOT an ex-pat....I am an immigrant to this country....same as many are in the UK no doubt....
secondly I will be relocating elsewhere in Spain (getting out of Dodge ..lol) as I cannot stand the amount of Brits who come here and ...dare I say it ...moan about the fact that ..British rules ..British laws...British currency . British standards etc..are not accepted here.....guess what, it is after all a DIFFERENT country...thats why :D :D :D ( I may moan about the endless paperwork and associated sluggishness of the authorites...but then I actually live here not just visit it, so can express my opinion on the matter as someone who has experienced it 8) )
Yes I did leave the UK because I was dissatisfied with what it could offer myself and my family...just as any of you could do (I find voting with your feet usually works !!! )  ...well, you could at the moment but unlikely after Brexit :( .......and just for info...as I have not been in the UK for over 10 years (except for 2 days for a family funeral) I made the decision not to vote either way in the referendum,,,,even though I could...I did not think it fair or morally right, to interfere in another countries choice if I do not reside there...but that does not remove my right to an opinion on the subject either :?
To me working within a system for future change ALWAYS beats being outside it  ...and luckily I can see both perspectives being outside the UK but having access to clear and logical unbiased info ...rather than the ´´propaganda´´ produced by both side in this matter .
Whatever you decide ..good luck..but if you choose to go it alone...then :?: :?: :?:

Sorry to be off the topic of this thread, but I felt compelled to respond to the post before last.

Firstly, in case you hadn't noticed, this is a forum for people who love Lanzarote - those fortunate to live and work there, those who dream of doing so, those who love the island and enjoy just visiting.

Do you imagine for one second that if we vote to leave us Brits would continue to be able to travel around the EU as we please, while EU citizens will be detained at our borders?

Secondly, have you noticed how quiet the horrendous BNP have been? That's because they are now part and parcel of the Tory far right and UKIP and have been absorbed by them.

In case you hadn't grasped it yet, though I am baffled as to why it would have escaped anyone who lives here (UK), like Lanzalocal says, all the things complained of, the lack of housing, GPs, school places are as a result of 6 years of a qRight wing austerity government - if you voted for them, you have no right to complain about the state of the country and no right to heap all the blame on immigration. Yet a vote for Brexit is a vote for even more of the same!

The Brexiter are peddling the myth that if we vote out immigration (all immigration) will cease, well it won't and we will have to cope with it just the same, but with our economy in the toilet and a load of right wing lunatics running the country.

So if you want to pay more for everything, pay more tax, pay to get an appointment at the GP (never mind a 2 week wait), have restrictions when travelling, give up your rights to paid time off, paid maternity leave, paid paternity leave, more expensive phone bills, longer working weeks, the end of budget air travel, low house prices, lower pensions, to name but a few things, then go ahead and fill your boots!

But remember, when these chickens come home to roost, you should be the first to stand up and accept you were responsible.

Thats right silly me I forgot the whole UK will collapse and life will never be the same if we leave but if we stay in expect Turkey to be allowed in even if the Spinless Cameron says he will veto it
Then were will all of these people live probably in more urban jungles built on the ever decreasing countyrside or we could just move to Spain like lanzalocal because there will less people living there as they have all moved to the uk where everything is free to everyone even though they have not a penny of uk tax in their lves.
The fuure is bright the future is the EU SUPERSTATE

Oh dear ..oh dear ..oh dear......as usual with Brexiteers...if you cannot actually refute any facts...then just rant on with half-truths and hearsay....sorry Sparky Mark but if you do not like it then vote for a change in Govt....other than that move out..according to yourself..you know it makes sense :D ...cannot believe what started as a light-hearted thread on the length of Spanish school holidays has now degenerated into a ´´slanging match´´

As to EU residents emigrating to the UK...you really need to check your (assumed ) figures...from the UK GOV own figures

Table 3 - Top ten sender countries of migrants by country of birth and nationality, UK 2013
Country of birth Percentage share

India 9.2
Poland 9.1
Pakistan 6.0
Ireland 4.4
Germany 3.6
South Africa 2.5
Nigeria 2.4
Bangladesh 2.4
Romania 2.2
United States 2.0

If only the EU had not let India,Pakistan,South Africa,Bangladesh´,Nigeria and the United States join then.....oh wait a mo. :!: ..they aren´t in the EU are they   ...so they must be ´´getting in´´ using the UKs own policies ...well I never eh ??
Doing your own research rather than believing the ´´propaganda ´´ fed to you is obviously worthwhile then
Anyway getting back on track...its Sunday afternoon...cannot believe it...not once have I heard ´´I´m bored ´´ yet :D

Euro now attacking the £, damn these Europeans....
South East Asia here I come.....

Beautiful truth from Lanzalocal, it's the UK government NOT the EU that is dragging Britain down , I had to pay into the Spanish system for 2 years before I can claim anything, Spain? EU? Yes, just like Britain....

The British, 22% voted Right wing facist Cons are doing a great divide and conquer routine in the people....and winning, you reap what you sow....
