Hello All,

We are in the process of buying a villa in Playa Blanca and now our thoughts are turning to the practicalities.

We need a pool cover and one of those reals that they roll up on to. Any suggestions for where we can get one and a ballpark figure would help.

We also need a pool cleaner. Some we have spoken to say that they have their pool cleaned weekly, others twice a week and others fortnightly, except when they are there, when it reverts to weekly. Can anyone suggest a reliable and reasonable pool cleaner? One gentleman we spoke to recently told us that he had turned up unannounced at his villa and despite paying for a weekly pool clean his pool did not appear to have been cleaned for ages. He was installing CCTV to check, which I think is a bit extreme, so as well as any recommendations any tips on avoiding the less scrupulous would be appreciated (pm me to avoid libel action :) )

We also need someone reliable etc to keep an eye on the place and arrange / carry out cleaning on an ad hoc basis (we have told friends and family that if they want to use it they will have to get it cleaned to avoid any unpleasantness)

Thanks in anticipation.

It's been a few years since I got mine, but it should cost about €1000 for the pool cover and roller. People often recommend the "Australian" pool cover as the "bubbles" eventually fall off some of the cheaper versions.

Can't recommend any pool cleaners I'm afraid.

Thanks for your reply PBalanca, I had previously seen the Australian pool covers when I was doing some research, so will keep this in mind.

I was expecting them to be a bit less than 1000€ though!

Am a bit surprised that I have not received any replies regarding pool cleaning / villa cleaning generally. Perhaps everyone is doing their own since the start of the financial crisis? :)

If you have a pool about 7 x 3.5 metres, then a top grade cover with tow bar and protected edges will cost about €700. You can get cheaper ones but...... Rollers again vary, but. Good one will probably be about €300. I expect that pool maintenance would cost about €80 per month. I' sack on on one of the Lanzarote FB pages about a cleaner .
