PROBABLY TOO LATE BUT WE ALWAYS BOOK ONE WAY OUT AND ONE WAY BACK PAYING EUROS WE FLY FROM PRESTWICK IN SCOTLAND AND 2 ADULTS AND 2 KIDS RETURN TOTAL IS JUST UNDER £400. SURELY TO DRIVE UP TO SCOTLAND WOULD STILL BE CHEAPER WAY OF TRAVELLING FOR YOU? HOPE THIS HELPS :)

What is the advantage of booking one way and not return and paying in Euros?

Hi
With Ryanair you can only book one-way.......it´s a point-to-point airline so does not allow for booking a return...simply two one-way tickets only............as to paying in Euros it depends on the exchange rate and also what offers are on in Euroland which can often be better than the Ryanair UK site.

I just booked a return flight with Ryanair. The first box on the search form asks if you want return or one way.

Hi
yes it does ask you that......but only to save you having to open two pages......if you look at the T&Cs you will find that you book each leg separately....but to save confusión it allows you to book flights out and flights back on the same page......should any leg of the flight be cancelled then you are only entitled to a refund for the cancelled leg.so in theory you could find that you arrive at your destination but for whatever reason the ´´return´´section is cancelled (as happened during the ash cloud fiasco) you will either receive a refund or have to rebook at the current rates(not necessarily the rate that applied at the time of your original booking)

Hi
Yes but as I explained it is not a true return(applies to all the ´´lo-cost ´´carriers they are ALL point -to-point airlines).....in that should any leg of your flight be cancelled they have no obligation to find you an alternative ´´return´´ flight.....just a partial refund and a chance to re-book.......a true return covers both the flight out and back should any problems arise.

The answer to the OP is to book them as soon as they come out.

My parents booked in April and paid £700 for 2

I booked last years in November for £600 and that was the cheapest they had been from the start of the year
