Just got this from Ryanair......

Dear Customer

In relation to your flight reference -------

Ryanair has been advised by the Spanish Government of a budgetary
proposal to increase airport charges later this month.

In accordance with our General Terms and Conditions of Travel* we are
advising customers with a reservation that includes a flight departing
from a Spanish airport that we may be forced to debit passengers for
any government imposed increases in airport charges prior to your
travel date.

Once the Spanish government budget is published Ryanair will advise
affected passengers by email of any additional airport charges that
may apply to your reservation before any charges are made.

Please see our website for updates regarding increases in Spanish
airport charges.

Yours sincerely

Ryanair Customer Service

Why do you think I never travel Ryanair?
If a cfm engine fails it is up to you to cover your delay costs because its the engine makers fault etc
Everything is someone elses fault!

I booked Monarch before the UK government charges came into effect, guess what? Monarch will honour my price, they will take the sting. Guess what? Monarch, thank you, I will use you again.

Sadly Cymmon we are confined to who we can use in Ireland, its Ryanair or Aer Lingus and the prices quoted by Aer Lingus are way higher than Ryanair, we dont have the option of multiple airports or multiple service providers :( Yes its a pain in the ass that we may have to pay a few euro more but its that or stay at home...........Mind you I would have thought that the spanish authorities would have been happy that Ryanair is bringing so much badly needed money into their country....silly me

I'm not keen on their attitude, although I believe the rise will only be a Euro or two - as long as Ryanair do't put their normal card charge on top!

I agree with johnb, we pay approximately £200.00 for two of us return from Luton to Arrecife with Ryanair. The same flight with Monarch is approximatey £365.00. I must say I have yet to fault Ryanair,if you play by their rules, have the correct size bag and weight there is no problem.
Most airlines reserve the right to impose any taxes that may come into effect before you travel ( increase in VAT or passenger duty ) so I don't see a problem !

I've read elsewhere that the increase at Tenerife airport is 50-odd CENTS, and nil at Lanzarote.

I got this e-mail this morning too. Lets hope these charges are not too high! I have flown with Ryanair a few times before and have had no problems! For us if we had to fly with Aer Lingus it would have meant no holiday!

Cymmmon - you obviously choose to fly with old flag carriers with aging fleets and huge mainantance costs so they have to have the back up planes.

I know you are a plane statto so you will know that Ryanair has one of the youngest fleets in the world. And hardly ever lose a bag compared to other major airlines.

I have no prob flying with Ryanair - or anyone else in fact. But for European shorthaul they are always my first choice and invariably the cheapest.

With the options we have available in Ireland its probably not, 2 adults and a baby Ryanair e500, with Aer Lingus e800.........hard to argue if its another few quid onto that !!! Suppose the initial reading of the email kinda spooked me a bit.

The tax rises affect all airlines equally, and in most cases seem to be down in the noise. I don't know if Ryanair are the only ones who have warned passengers.

I have had the email too but nothing else yet. To be honest i'm not that bothered, my flights were half price to Monarch so Ryanair will still work out cheaper.

Even if the flights were the same price i would still choose Ryanair over Monarch for several reasons. Never had any delays, always straight off the plane when the wheels stop on runway, no reclining seats, good value for money.

I use them at least 6 times a year to Lanzarote and until i have a major problem they will be my 1st choice. I bought an ultralight suitcase that is exactly the max size for hand luggage, i never go over 10 kg and i sail through each time, if you play the game you have nothing to worry about.

Just a quick question if there are any other Ryanair regulars, from East Midland they let you take on a WH Smith bag as well with books, crisps, pop etc in. Has anyone tried a duty free carrier from Arrecife homebound in addition to their hand luggage?
