Hubby and I are arriving in Costa Teguise in May for 10 days. We have never been to Lanzarote before, usually go to Tenerife but fancied a change.

We love walking. Is it possible to walk along a coast road into Arrecife? I have tried Googling it but it just shows walking along the main road.

Also, if it is possible, are there any cafe bars where we can stop and have a lemonade or two during the walk (Google says 8km/1hr 38mins)??

Many thanks

BS

The best you can do is get the regular bus to the front (Intercambiar) in Arrecife, from there, there is a walk through El Cable, Playa Honda, Matagorda and Pocillos to Puerto del Carmen. About 7 miles with bars available throughout the walk. All along the seashore.
You can return direct by bus from Puerto del Carmen.

Lanzarote is excellent for walking, and there are well signposted footpaths all around the island. From Costa Teguise, it is possible to walk into Arrecife, partially along the promenade, and partially along the pavement, only part of which outside Arrecife is a "main" road. Just stick as close too the coastline as poss. On the southern fringe is the house that belongs to the King of Spain, where you have to leave the coast and walk around the landward side for a short distance. Alternatively, you can walk north along the coast as far as you like from Costa Teguise on a rough track.

I recommend getting the book Walk! Lanzarote by David and Ros Brown ISBN 9781904946533 from Amazon, and its companion map. This has 35 well described walks covering the island, and a guide to all the bus timetables (but check locally that the times haven't changed). Car hire is cheap and good (but avoid Gold Car at all costs), and would enable you to get far more walking done in a short time.

Well, as this original post was on the morning of 1 Apr, and the poster has not been on since, I'm beginning to wonder if it was an April fool jape.

No joke honestly.

Posting on April 1st was just a co-incidence.

Only 2 1/2 weeks to our holiday now. Getting very excited by it. Can't wait.

Thanks for the replies above.
