Hello, Myself and Partner are planning on re locating to Lanzarote in the next 6 months and have a few questions regarding employment.
My partner has qualifications in fitness and would like to know if they are transferable to use or are of any use in finding work, they are Generally made up of Gym, Lifeguard and fitness ones she also teaches Aqua aerobics here in the Uk.
The other qualification she has is maybe a useful one if relevant in Spain its TEFL (teaching English as a Foreign Language)....

Before people say how hard it is to get work and somewhere to live etc , just to advise you guys we own a property outright on the island and will have a small income from the rental of our uk property to go towards our income.

Myself Im a qualified plumber and heating engineer with aircon, solar and heat pump qualification so hopefully I to could find some work.

Any info that you think will help will be gratefully received.

John.

Hi
As a general rule of thumb here....if the qualifications are not in Spanish or not obtained in Spain then generally they are not accepted without completing a conversion course (in Spanish) to the equivalent level.....the only exception in both your cases would be the TEFL qualification( although aerobics and fitness would also probably be accepted as well,if only dealing with ´´ex-pats´´... but lifeguard and first aid will have to be redone in Spanish).......you could do jobs as a plumber/ heating engineer for the ex-pats or if you could find a firm that will risk employing you without Spanish qualifications ....however whatever work you do will have to be checked and signed off by someone with the appropriate Spànish equivalents( so ineffect anyone employing you would then have to employ a locally qualified guy as well...so really paying twice when the local can do it all) ....afraid that is the rule here,
Also bear in mind that living here will make you tax-resident here...so under Spanish rules you will be taxed on your ´´world-wide´´ income so that modest income from letting in the UK may well be reduced.
Good luck
